Taurus GX2 Light Purple Black Slide 9mm 13+1 — Superb Compact

Description

The Taurus GX2 Light Purple Black Slide is the lavender-framed, black-slide version of Taurus’s compact 9mm: thirteen rounds, a 3.37-inch stainless barrel, an accessory rail and two magazines, at a price that leaves room in the budget for ammunition.

Taurus makes the GX2 frame in two purples, and they are genuinely different guns to look at. The Taurus GX2 Light Purple Black Slide is the pale, lavender one; the dark purple model is closer to aubergine. Both have the colour moulded through the polymer rather than sprayed on the surface, so neither will chip or wear pale at the edges.

What you are getting

• The Taurus GX2 Light Purple Black Slide holds thirteen rounds plus one, in a flush-fitting magazine — two magazines are included.
• A 3.37-inch matte stainless barrel inside a matte black serrated stainless slide.
• A light purple polymer frame with a Picatinny rail moulded into the dust cover.
• Stippled texture on both grip panels, the front strap and the backstrap, so the Taurus GX2 Light Purple Black Slide does not move in a wet hand.
• A trigger-blade safety and a striker block, with no manual thumb safety to remember.

On buying a coloured handgun

• The colour is in the polymer, not on it. A deep scratch on the Taurus GX2 Light Purple Black Slide exposes more light purple, not grey plastic under a coating.
• A distinctive frame is easy to identify in a safe, a range bag or a drawer, and hard to mix up with someone else’s pistol at a shared bench.
• None of the mechanics change. Same barrel, same slide, same trigger, same magazines and holsters as the black GX2.
• If you prefer the same idea in a deeper shade, the dark purple GX2 is in stock; if you want a stainless slide with the lavender frame, that combination exists too.
• There is no price penalty for the colour.

9mm Luger is standardised by SAAMI — same dimensions, same pressure ceiling, every maker — which is exactly why it is the cheapest serious defensive cartridge to practise with. An inexpensive pistol plus an inexpensive cartridge is the combination that gets a new shooter to real competence rather than one nervous box a year.

The rest of the GX2 colour range is in stock: the light purple frame with a stainless slide, the dark purple, cyan, grey, tan and plain black. For a red dot, the optic-cut version is the GX2 TORO.

Why the Taurus GX2 Light Purple Black Slide earns its place

• The Taurus GX2 Light Purple Black Slide puts thirteen rounds in a compact that still hides under a shirt.
• A full-length grip, which is what makes a small 9mm shootable rather than just carryable.
• Colour moulded through, so it ages without chipping.
• Stainless steel under the finish on both barrel and slide.
• Two magazines and a rail, at a price where neither is guaranteed.

This is a first pistol, a household pistol and a sensible carry gun, and the colour is a reason to buy it rather than a reason not to — a gun you like the look of is a gun you take to the range. The trigger is serviceable rather than fine and the sights are plain black; the Taurus GX2 Light Purple Black Slide is honest about what it is.
