Description

The Taurus 1911 45 ACP is a full-size, all-steel Government-pattern pistol that arrives with features most makers charge extra for. Beavertail grip safety, skeletonized hammer and trigger, extended thumb safety, lowered and flared ejection port and dovetailed sights all come standard.
The slide and frame are steel in a matte black finish, with a matte stainless barrel underneath. At this price, a steel-framed 1911 with this feature set is genuinely hard to match.
Taurus 1911 45 ACP Slide and Barrel
The five-inch barrel gives the pistol standard Government proportions, which means the full sight radius and the balance that made the design famous. The matte stainless barrel contrasts with the black slide and resists corrosion where it matters most.
Slide serrations are cut front and rear, so you can press check or clear a malfunction from either end. The ejection port is lowered and flared, which is a reliability upgrade that reduces case damage and helps prevent stovepipes.
Frame, Controls and Grips
The steel frame carries a beavertail grip safety with a memory bump, so a high grip is comfortable and hammer bite is not a concern. An extended thumb safety makes cocked-and-locked carry practical, and the skeletonized hammer and trigger are both standard.
Checkered black polymer grips fill the hand without adding bulk, and the frontstrap and mainspring housing are serrated for grip. Capacity is 8+1 in the standard single-stack 1911 magazine pattern, so spares from any of the usual makers fit.

Shooting a Steel Government 1911
An all-steel Government-size 1911 in .45 ACP is one of the softest-shooting centerfire pistols made. The weight absorbs recoil, the trigger breaks straight back rather than pivoting, and the low bore axis keeps muzzle rise modest even with full-power loads.
Standard 230 grain ball is what the platform was designed around and what feeds most reliably. New 1911 owners should plan on running a couple of hundred rounds through any new pistol before trusting it, which is standard practice with the design regardless of maker.
Sights and Optics
Sights are dovetailed front and rear, which matters more than it sounds. Fixed sights staked or milled into a slide are a gunsmith job to change; dovetailed sights mean you can drop in night sights or fiber optics yourself with a punch and a vise block.
The slide is not cut for a red dot, so an optic would require milling. For most buyers that is the right trade at this price, since a factory optic cut typically adds two hundred dollars or more.
Holsters and Accessories
Because the pistol follows standard Government dimensions, essentially every 1911 holster on the market fits it. The same applies to magazines, grip panels and mainspring housings.
Why Buyers Choose It
The value proposition is straightforward. A beavertail, extended safety, skeletonized hammer and trigger, dovetailed sights and a flared ejection port are all upgrades people routinely pay a gunsmith to add to a base 1911. Taurus includes them.
Standard 1911 parts also fit, so the pistol works as a platform. Triggers, sights, grips, hammers and safeties can all be swapped without hunting for proprietary components, which is not true of every budget 1911.
Who Should Buy It
This pistol suits the shooter who has always wanted a steel .45 and would rather not spend well over a thousand dollars getting one, the home defense buyer who wants a full-size gun, and anyone looking for a solid base for a project pistol.
