Taurus GX2 Cyan Stainless 9mm 10+1 3.37in — Superb Compact

Description

The Taurus GX2 Cyan Stainless pairs a matte stainless slide with a mint-green polymer frame, in the ten-round configuration of Taurus’s compact 9mm: a 3.37-inch stainless barrel, an accessory rail and two magazines.

The stainless slide is the useful half of the combination. A pistol carried close to the body lives somewhere warm, humid and salty, and stainless resists that in the metal rather than depending on a coating that wears through where a holster rubs. The Taurus GX2 Cyan Stainless puts the corrosion resistance in the steel and the character in the frame.

How it is built

• A 3.37-inch matte stainless barrel inside a matte stainless slide, serrated front and rear.
• A cyan polymer frame with the colour pigmented through the material rather than sprayed over it.
• The Taurus GX2 Cyan Stainless holds ten rounds plus one in a flush-fitting magazine, with two magazines included.
• A Picatinny rail moulded into the dust cover for a light or a laser.
• Stippling across both grip panels, the front strap and the backstrap, so the Taurus GX2 Cyan Stainless does not shift in a wet hand.

Ten rounds without giving anything up

• Nothing is shortened to reach ten. The frame, grip and barrel are the same as the thirteen-round GX2 — only the follower and the count differ.
• So you keep a full three-finger hold, which is what determines whether a compact pistol can actually be controlled under pressure.
• Buying a subcompact to comply with a magazine limit trades away grip and barrel for nothing at all.
• If you move somewhere without a limit, the thirteen-round magazines drop straight in and nothing else changes.
• Holsters, lights and accessories for any GX2 fit the Taurus GX2 Cyan Stainless, so equipping it is cheap and easy.
• There is no price penalty for either the colour or the stainless slide.
• Slide serrations run front and rear, so press checks and one-handed manipulations against a belt edge both work without a special technique.
• The trigger returns with a reset you can feel through a glove, which matters more in a defensive pistol than a light break does.

9mm Luger is standardised by SAAMI — identical dimensions and pressure ceiling from every maker, produced in greater volume than any other centre-fire handgun cartridge, and therefore cheap. That is the real case for an affordable pistol: the money saved buys the range time that actually makes someone competent.

The cyan frame is also stocked with a black slide and thirteen rounds, with a black slide and ten, and with a stainless slide and thirteen. Other colours include grey, light purple and plain black.

Why the Taurus GX2 Cyan Stainless earns its place

• The Taurus GX2 Cyan Stainless uses stainless steel on both barrel and slide, at a price where coated carbon steel is the norm.
• A full-size grip and barrel inside a ten-round limit.
• Colour moulded through the frame rather than painted on.
• An accessory rail and two magazines included.
• Parts, magazines and holsters shared across the whole GX2 family.

This suits a first pistol, a household pistol and a carry gun for anyone in a ten-round jurisdiction — particularly someone who carries against the body or works outdoors, where the stainless slide earns its keep. The trigger is serviceable rather than refined and the sights are plain black. The Taurus GX2 Cyan Stainless competes on value, and on being easy to pick out of a safe full of black pistols.
