Glock 17 Gen6 9mm 10 Round striker fired pistol

The Glock 17 Gen6 9mm 10 Round is the full size pistol the whole Glock line was built around, rebuilt as a Gen6. This is the first genuine ergonomic overhaul the design has had since Gen5 arrived in 2017, and it is supplied here with ten round magazines for capacity restricted states.

Glock 17 Gen6 9mm 10 Round Optic Ready System

The headline change on Gen6 is how optics mount. Glock has dropped the adapter plates the MOS system relied on and machined the slide so a red dot bolts down directly, with screw threads compatible with the Trijicon RMR and SRO, the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro and C-More footprints. Removing the plate removes a stack of tolerances, a second set of screws to check and a few millimeters of height, so the dot sits lower and there is one less thing to work loose under recoil.

On a full size slide the benefit is easy to feel. There is plenty of room to mount a dot, the long sight radius means the backup irons stay useful underneath, and the lower mounting height shortens the distance the eye has to travel from the notch to the dot on the draw.

Grip, Trigger and Slide Changes

Gen6 introduces a flat faced trigger as standard, and shortens the distance from the backstrap to the trigger face to 68 mm, roughly two millimeters less than Gen5. That sounds trivial and is not: shooters with shorter fingers reach the trigger more squarely, and a flat shoe makes it easier to feel where the finger sits on every press.

The grip is where the rest of the work went. Glock added subtle palm swells to each side, scalloped thumb ledges ahead of the trigger guard for a higher, more locked in grip, and a new RTF-6 texture that covers more of the frame than the RTF-2 and RTF-4 patterns before it. Front and rear slide serrations are milled deeper as well, which matters most with wet or gloved hands.

Barrel, Safety and Controls

The barrel is the Glock Marksman Barrel carried over from Gen5, using an enhanced polygonal rifling profile and a tighter crown than the older design. Underneath, the Safe Action system is unchanged: three passive, independently operating mechanical safeties that disengage in sequence as the trigger is pressed and reset automatically when it is released. There is no manual safety lever and no decocker.

Why Buyers Choose the Glock 17 Gen6 9mm 10 Round

Gen6 is the first time Glock has meaningfully changed how the pistol feels in the hand rather than what happens inside it. Palm swells, thumb ledges, a flat trigger set two millimeters closer and deeper serrations are all things owners used to pay a stipple artist to approximate. Combined with plate free optic mounting, it removes most of the reasons people modified a Glock in the first place.

It is also worth knowing what Gen6 is not. It is a separate line from the V Series, which is Glock’s other current platform and which changed internal parts rather than ergonomics. The two are not the same pistol with a different label, and parts do not freely interchange between generations, so confirm fitment before ordering components.

Who Should Buy It

The Glock 17 Gen6 9mm 10 Round suits the duty officer or home defender who wants a full size 9mm with a red dot mounted properly from day one, the shooter whose hands never quite fitted earlier Glock frames, and the buyer in a capacity restricted state who does not want to give up frame size to comply.

What ships with it

Three 10-round magazines come in the box with the Glock 17 Gen6 9mm 10 Round, along with the interchangeable backstraps. That is a genuinely useful amount of kit for a compliance-configured pistol, where spare magazines are usually the thing people forget to budget for. Spare Glock-pattern magazines are cheap and universal; an ETS translucent 9mm magazine shows the round count through the body and the ETS Omega for the 17 and 19 is the tougher option.

9mm Luger chamber and pressure limits are published by SAAMI and the Glock 17 Gen6 9mm 10 Round will run any factory load built to them. Federal American Eagle 115 gr FMJ is the practice default; Hornady Critical Defense 115 gr FTX is the carry load worth confirming in the gun first.

Where it sits in the Gen6 range

This is the 10-round configuration for capacity-restricted states. If your state does not cap magazines, the full-size Gen6 17 and the compact Glock 19 Gen6 cover the same ground, and the Glock 45 Gen6 splits the difference with a full-size grip and a compact slide. Browse the rest in our handguns category.

At 23.99 ounces with a 4.49-inch barrel, the Glock 17 Gen6 9mm 10 Round is the easiest of the three to shoot well and the hardest to conceal. If the pistol is for a night stand, a range bag or a competition division, that trade goes the right way.

Every firearm we list ships to your chosen FFL and is transferred there after a background check.
