Description

The Raging Hunter 460 8.37 is the long-barrel .460 in the conventional Raging Hunter layout: a matte stainless frame under a black anodized ported shroud with a full-length Picatinny rail, and a matte black oxide cylinder. Five rounds of .460 S&W Magnum.

At eight and a third inches the Raging Hunter 460 8.37 is a scoped hunting revolver rather than a carrying one, and it is the length at which the cartridge really starts to show what it can do.

What the 8.37-inch barrel gives you

  • The Raging Hunter 460 8.37 makes substantially more velocity than the 5.12 and 6.75-inch guns, which is the whole reason for the length
  • A long stretch of Picatinny rail, with room to set a scope where your eye actually sits
  • Dual-stage gas expansion ports cut into the top of the shroud, which on the Raging Hunter 460 8.37 keep the muzzle settled
  • Five rounds of .460 S&W Magnum, with .454 Casull and .45 Colt chambering in the same cylinder
  • Matte stainless frame, black anodized shroud and matte black oxide cylinder
  • Thumb safety, exposed hammer and an adjustable rear sight
  • Cushioned rubber grip with a soft insert down the backstrap

Raging Hunter 460 8.37 in. two-tone revolver with ported barrel and Picatinny rail

Three cartridges from one cylinder

  • .460 S&W Magnum: the full-power load, and the reason to buy the gun
  • .454 Casull: a shorter case, still a serious hunting round, and cheaper to shoot
  • .45 Colt: mild and inexpensive, which is what makes regular practice possible
  • Chamber length does the work: .460 is longer than .454, which is longer than .45 Colt, so all three headspace safely
  • Scrub the chambers after shooting the shorter cases, or the longer rounds will eventually stop seating
  • Do not read that as a power ladder. A hot .454 load will outrun a mild .460, so read the box rather than the headstamp

The .460 S&W Magnum is a standardised cartridge with chamber dimensions and pressure ceilings published by SAAMI, and the shared case diameter with .454 Casull and .45 Colt is what makes the three-cartridge arrangement work. Buy factory ammunition unless you are an experienced handloader with current data.

One thing worth budgeting for alongside the gun. A scoped 8.37-inch revolver will not fit a normal holster, and there is no good improvised answer. A chest rig costs a fraction of what the revolver does and it is the difference between a Raging Hunter 460 8.37 that goes hunting and one that lives in a range bag.

Why this revolver earns its place

  • Serious velocity from the .460 cartridge without going to the ten-inch gun
  • A factory optics rail, which matters more on a hunting handgun than any other feature
  • Porting and a cushioned grip that make the Raging Hunter 460 8.37 controllable by a practised shooter
  • Three chamberings from one cylinder, so practice does not cost .460 money
  • Stainless frame and black oxide cylinder, both of which handle wet weather well
  • Adjustable irons as a backup if an optic fails in the field

Handgun hunters and guides who want reach without carrying a rifle. The Raging Hunter 460 8.37 is a purpose-built hunting tool and nobody should buy it as a general-purpose handgun.

For carrying lengths in the same cartridge, the 5.12-inch two-tone and the 6.75-inch are far easier to wear. For maximum barrel, the 10.5-inch two-tone and the 10.5-inch black add a muzzle brake in place of the ports.

For more cartridge again, the .500 S&W Raging Hunter is the step up. For less recoil and cheaper ammunition, the .454 Casull covers two of the three cartridges this one chambers.

Every Raging Hunter we ship comes with the factory case, the manual and a lock. Transfers go to your FFL and our end of the paperwork is done the same day.
