Description
The Raging Hunter 500 Black is the mid-length .500 S&W in a single uniform finish: black steel frame, matte black oxide cylinder and a black ported barrel with a target crown. Five rounds of the most powerful cartridge in general production, and a full-length Picatinny rail machined into the shroud.
The Raging Hunter 500 Black uses the barrel length most hunters settle on. Long enough to get sensible velocity from the cartridge, short enough to carry in a chest rig through brush.
What the all-black 6.75 gives you
- Five rounds of .500 S&W Magnum from the barrel length that balances velocity against carrying weight
- The Raging Hunter 500 Black has a black steel frame and matte black oxide cylinder, so there is no bright work anywhere on the gun
- Dual-stage gas expansion ports cut into the top of the shroud, with a target crown at the muzzle
- Full-length Picatinny rail with room to set a scope for your own eye relief
- Cushioned rubber grip with a soft insert down the backstrap, which on the Raging Hunter 500 Black is essential
- Adjustable rear sight and an exposed hammer for deliberate single-action shots
- A uniform finish that will not flash at an animal on a bright morning

What shooting a .500 is actually like
- Recoil on the Raging Hunter 500 Black is severe. Porting and the cushioned grip bring it down to manageable, not to pleasant
- Muzzle blast is worse than the recoil for most people, and doubled hearing protection is not optional
- The ports vent upward and sideways, so nobody should be standing beside you on the line
- Five careful shots teach you more than fifty rushed ones, and your hands will thank you
- Lighter .500 loads are worth buying. A 350-grain round practises the same skills as a 440-grain at far less cost
- Heavy recoil can pull bullets forward out of the crimp in the unfired chambers and tie up the cylinder. Buy quality factory ammunition

The .500 S&W Magnum is a standardised cartridge with chamber dimensions and maximum pressures published by SAAMI. Given what it produces, buy factory ammunition for this one unless you are an experienced handloader working from current published data.
One thing to plan for at the same time as the gun. A scoped .500 in this barrel length needs a chest holster, and there is no good improvised substitute. Budget for one. A Raging Hunter 500 Black that lives in a range bag because there was nothing to carry it in has cost you the entire point of buying a hunting revolver.
Why this revolver earns its place
- The most powerful cartridge in general production, in its most usable barrel length
- A factory optics rail, which on a hunting handgun is worth more than any other feature
- Porting and a cushioned grip that make the Raging Hunter 500 Black controllable by a practised shooter
- A uniform black finish with nothing to catch light in the field
- Adjustable irons as a backup if an optic fails miles from the truck
- Genuine insurance in country where something very large might take an interest in you
Handgun hunters, guides and anyone spending time in big-bear country. The Raging Hunter 500 Black is a working gun rather than a range toy, and it is bought by people who intend to carry it somewhere specific.
If you prefer the stainless frame, the 6.75-inch two-tone is the same gun in the other finish. For a shorter, handier package, the 5.12-inch black and the 5.12-inch two-tone are the carrying lengths.
For maximum barrel, the 10-inch black is as long as it gets. And if the ammunition cost of a .500 puts you off, the .460 S&W at the same barrel length takes .454 Casull and .45 Colt in the same cylinder.
Every Raging Hunter we ship comes with the factory case, the manual and a lock. Transfers go to your FFL and our end of the paperwork is done the same day.
