Description
The Taurus 22TUC Blue PVD is a nine-shot .22 LR micro-compact with a 2.50-inch tip-up barrel and a polished blue PVD finish on both the slide and the barrel, over a black polymer frame.
The colour is the first thing anyone notices, but the barrel is the reason to buy the gun. Press the release and the muzzle tips up, so you load a round straight into the chamber by hand — no slide to rack, no spring to fight. That makes the Taurus 22TUC Blue PVD a genuine answer for anyone whose hands cannot cycle a blowback pistol, and a pleasant one for everyone else.
What the tip-up barrel changes
- Loading the Taurus 22TUC Blue PVD needs no grip strength at all. The release sits on the left side of the frame, the barrel pivots up, and the first round drops in.
- Unloading is just as easy, and you can see straight into the chamber rather than squinting at an extractor cut.
- There is no short-stroked chambering attempt to get wrong, which is where most loading fumbles with small pistols start.
- Once loaded, the Taurus 22TUC Blue PVD cycles as a conventional blowback pistol — the slide runs normally under recoil.
- A manual thumb safety sits on the left side of the frame, where a right-hand thumb falls on it naturally.
About the finish
- Blue PVD is physical vapour deposition, not paint or anodising. It is a hard, thin ceramic-metal layer bonded to the stainless slide and the steel barrel, and it does not flake or rub off at the edges.
- Both the slide and the tip-up barrel are finished; the frame and grip stay black polymer, so the colour is confined to the metal.
- Slide serrations are cut into the finished surface, so the purchase you grip does not depend on the coating staying intact.
- It is a conspicuous pistol. If you want the same gun without the announcement, the 22TUC is also made in matte black, matte stainless, gold and rose gold, and with an engraved cherry blossom or wave pattern.
- There is no price penalty for the finish on the Taurus 22TUC Blue PVD.

Rimfire ammunition is made to a standard published by SAAMI, but standardised is not the same as interchangeable in practice: bullet weight, velocity and case lubrication vary widely between .22 LR loads, and a small blowback pistol is far fussier about that than a rifle. Buy two or three brands, shoot a box of each, and stay with whatever cycles cleanly. High-velocity 36 to 40 grain ammunition is usually the answer; subsonic and match loads often will not drive the slide far enough.
The rest of the family is in stock: the engraved blue wave, the cherry blossom, the polished gold and rose gold, and the plain matte black and matte stainless.
Why the Taurus 22TUC Blue PVD earns its place
- A loading system that works for hands that cannot rack a slide — no coaching substitutes for that.
- Nine rounds plus one in a pistol that disappears in a coat pocket.
- The Taurus 22TUC Blue PVD is cheap to feed, which means it actually gets shot, which is the only thing that builds skill.
- A PVD finish that will still look like this in ten years.
- A light single-action trigger with a short press.
Be clear about the cartridge. The Taurus 22TUC Blue PVD is a .22 out of a two-and-a-half-inch barrel, which is a light-duty round, and rimfire ignition is inherently less certain than centre-fire. Where it makes real sense is as a trainer, a pocket and trail gun, and as a defensive option for someone who genuinely cannot work a centre-fire pistol — a gun you can load and shoot beats a more powerful one you cannot.
