Description
The Taurus 22TUC Stainless is the two-tone build of the tip-up 22, catalogued as 1-22TUC139. Nine rounds of 22 LR plus one chambered, a 2.50-inch matte stainless tip-up barrel, a matte stainless slide and a black polymer frame.
Stainless is the sensible choice on a pistol this size. A micro-compact carried in a pocket or a bag collects sweat and lint, and a matte stainless barrel and slide tolerate that far better than a coated carbon surface. The Taurus 22TUC Stainless also shows holster wear as dulling rather than as bright scars through a black finish.
MAG5 Firearms has it in stock. Handguns ship to a licensed FFL on a signed 4473, and we coordinate the transfer with your dealer.
The tip-up barrel, which is the whole point
- Press the release and the barrel hinges up at the breech, so a round goes straight into the chamber.
- Loading and unloading require no grip strength at all, only a finger on the release.
- There is no slide to rack against a recoil spring, which is where arthritis and hand injuries usually stop people.
- Clearing the gun is visibly positive: the barrel stands open and the chamber is in plain sight.
- Once loaded, the Taurus 22TUC Stainless runs as an ordinary semi-automatic, so nothing else is unfamiliar.

Size, finish and shooting it
- Matte stainless barrel and slide, with corrosion resistance in the alloy rather than in a coating.
- A black polymer frame with a textured grip panel, small enough for a jacket pocket or a bag.
- Nine rounds plus one chambered, which is a lot for a pistol this size.
- 22 LR recoils so lightly that a new shooter can work on sight picture and trigger press without flinching.
- Rimfire ammunition costs a fraction of centerfire, so the Taurus 22TUC Stainless is genuinely cheap to practise with.

Rimfire is produced to the dimensional and pressure standards published by SAAMI, but 22 LR is fussier about the individual gun than any centerfire cartridge: one brand may cycle perfectly where another short-strokes. Buy two or three types, find what your pistol prefers, then buy that by the case. We stock Aguila 22 LR Interceptor 40gr and Eley Precision 22 LR.
The same pistol in matte black is the 22TUC Black, and there are rose gold and engraved blue PVD versions. For a 22 revolver instead, the eight-shot 942 is worth a look. Browse the rest of our semi-automatic handguns too.
Why this 22TUC earns its place
- The Taurus 22TUC Stainless solves the slide-racking problem outright, which practice alone does not fix for some shooters.
- Stainless tolerates being carried against the body far better than a coated finish.
- Nine rounds of 22 LR in a pistol that disappears in a coat pocket.
- Cheap enough to feed that regular range time is realistic rather than aspirational.
- Taurus backs it with a limited lifetime repair policy that follows the firearm rather than the original buyer.
This is the pistol to consider when hand strength is the limiting factor: arthritis, an injury, or simply a preference for not fighting a spring. It also works well as a training gun, since 22 LR lets a new shooter build trigger control before recoil enters the picture. Be realistic about the cartridge: 22 LR is a small round, and anyone selecting it for defensive use should understand that and train accordingly.
