Taurus 22TUC Black 22 LR 9+1 Tip-Up — Superb Micro-Compact Pistol

Description

The Taurus 22TUC Black is the plain, all-black build of the tip-up 22, catalogued by Taurus as 1-22TUC131. Nine rounds of 22 LR plus one chambered, a 2.50-inch tip-up barrel in matte black steel, a matte black serrated stainless slide and a black polymer frame.

Everything about this pistol is organised around one idea: you should not need to rack a slide to load it. Press the release, the barrel hinges up at the breech, and a round goes straight into the chamber. Unloading works the same way. For anyone who has struggled with a recoil spring, the Taurus 22TUC Black removes the problem rather than working around it.

MAG5 Firearms has it in stock. Handguns ship to a licensed FFL on a signed 4473, and we coordinate the transfer with your dealer.

Why the tip-up design matters

• Chambering a round takes no grip strength, only the barrel release and a finger.
• Clearing the gun is visibly positive: the barrel stands open and the chamber is in plain view.
• There is no slide to short-stroke, which is one of the more common causes of a malfunction in inexperienced hands.
• Once loaded, the Taurus 22TUC Black runs as an ordinary semi-automatic, so nothing else is unfamiliar.
• It makes routine safety checks quicker and less ambiguous for everyone in the household.

Size, finish and shooting it

• Matte black throughout, with no gloss on the slide or barrel to catch the light.
• A micro-compact frame with a textured grip panel, small enough for a jacket pocket or a bag.
• Nine rounds plus one chambered, which is a lot for a pistol this size.
• 22 LR recoils so lightly that a new shooter can work on sight picture and trigger press without flinching.
• Rimfire ammunition costs a fraction of centerfire, so the Taurus 22TUC Black is genuinely cheap to practise with.

Rimfire is produced to the dimensional and pressure standards published by SAAMI, but 22 LR is fussier about the individual gun than any centerfire cartridge: one brand may cycle perfectly where another short-strokes. Buy two or three types, find what your pistol prefers, then buy that by the case. We stock Aguila 22 LR Interceptor 40gr and Eley Precision 22 LR.

The same pistol in a rose gold PVD finish is the 22TUC Rose Gold. For a centerfire micro-compact of similar size, look at the Taurus GX4 in 9mm. Browse the rest of our semi-automatic handguns too.

Why the 22TUC earns its place

• The Taurus 22TUC Black solves the slide-racking problem outright, which practice alone does not fix for some shooters.
• Nine rounds of 22 LR in a pistol that disappears in a coat pocket.
• Cheap enough to feed that regular range time is realistic.
• Simple to check safe, which is worth something in any home with more than one person in it.
• Taurus backs it with a limited lifetime repair policy that follows the firearm rather than the original buyer.

This is the pistol to consider when hand strength is the limiting factor: arthritis, an injury, or simply a preference for not fighting a spring. It also works well as a training gun, since 22 LR lets a new shooter build trigger control before recoil enters the picture. Be realistic about the cartridge: 22 LR is a small round, and anyone selecting it for defensive use should understand that and train accordingly.
