Rossi Brawler 300 Blackout Single Shot Pistol 9 in. – Superb Tough Break Action

Description

The Rossi Brawler 300 Blackout is a single shot break action pistol, and that sentence is the whole design brief. Press the latch, the barrel drops open, you load one cartridge into the Rossi Brawler 300 Blackout, you close it, you fire it. There is no magazine, no gas system, no bolt carrier and nothing to short stroke. Rossi part number SSPB9300-BK, nine inches of matte black threaded barrel, one round.

Simplicity of that kind has a real constituency. A truck gun that lives in a case for two years and has to work on the day it comes out. A pack gun for hunters who want one accurate shot at a hog or a whitetail inside sensible range without carrying a rifle. A camp gun. The Rossi Brawler 300 Blackout is not trying to be a defensive handgun and it is not pretending to be a carbine. It is a rifle cartridge in a shape you can hang on your belt.

What the Rossi Brawler 300 Blackout gives you

• Break action single shot, one round, nothing to jam
• 9 inch barrel threaded 5/8×24 for a brake or compensator
• Chambered in 300 AAC Blackout, a cartridge designed around short barrels
• Full length Picatinny rail for an optic
• Ergonomic soft rubber grip that soaks up recoil
• Matte black finish throughout
• No sights fitted, by design, so plan on a red dot
• Loads and unloads from an open breech you can see straight through

Why a single shot 300 Blackout pistol makes sense

• No magazine to buy, lose, load or replace
• A break action 300 Blackout handgun shows you an empty chamber at a glance, which matters in a vehicle or a cabin
• Cleaning happens from the breech, the way a barrel should be cleaned
• Fewer moving parts means less to go wrong after long storage
• One deliberate shot encourages better shooting than a magazine full of them

Feeding a 9 inch threaded 300 Blackout

300 AAC Blackout was designed from the start to deliver its full performance out of a nine inch barrel, which is exactly what this pistol has. Supersonic loads are where the Rossi Brawler 300 Blackout makes the most sense. Barnes VOR-TX 120 grain TAC-TX is an all-copper expanding bullet built for short barrels, and Wilson Combat 110 grain V-MAX is the lighter, faster option.

Subsonic ammunition such as SIG Sauer 220 grain Match Subsonic will cycle nothing, because there is nothing to cycle, and it will chamber and fire without complaint. Understand what you are buying, though. Subsonic 300 Blackout is designed to be shot through a suppressor. Fired unsuppressed from a nine inch barrel it is quieter than a supersonic load but still loud, and the heavy bullet drops quickly past a hundred yards.

Sights and optics on a break action 300 Blackout handgun

There are no iron sights on this gun. None. What you get instead is a Picatinny rail running along the top, and that is a deliberate design choice rather than an omission to complain about. Mount a red dot and the Rossi Brawler 300 Blackout becomes a far quicker gun to aim than any notch and post would make it. A Holosun HS510C sits on that rail directly. Budget for an optic when you budget for the pistol.

The threaded muzzle, and one legal line worth reading

The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24, the standard .30 caliber rifle pitch, so brakes and compensators for the Rossi Brawler 300 Blackout are easy to source. A suppressor is an NFA item requiring ATF approval and a tax stamp, and MAG5 does not stock NFA items.

Second, and more important: this is legally a pistol. Fitting a shoulder stock to it creates a short barreled rifle under federal law, which is an NFA firearm requiring ATF approval before the parts ever go together. A brace is a separate and shifting question. If you are considering either one, talk to us and talk to counsel before you buy parts.

How the Rossi Brawler 300 Blackout compares

Rossi builds the same pistol in 300 Blackout with an FDE finish if black is not your preference, and in 5.56 NATO for anyone who would rather feed it from the same ammunition can as an AR. The original .410 bore and .45 Colt Brawler remains the choice for anyone who wants a shot pattern rather than a single projectile.

Worth knowing before you buy

• 300 AAC Blackout is a SAAMI standardized cartridge, so factory ammunition is consistent across brands. See the SAAMI published standards.
• A nine inch barrel and a light frame mean noticeable muzzle blast. Wear hearing protection, and warn anyone standing beside you.
• Never chamber 300 Blackout in a 5.56 barrel or the reverse. The two cartridges will fit in the wrong chamber and the results are catastrophic.
• Distributor records disagree on the frame material, so we are not quoting one. Ask and we will open a box and tell you what is in front of us.

If you already own an AR in 300 Blackout, the Rossi Brawler 300 Blackout is the cheapest way to put that same ammunition supply into something you can carry on a belt or stow behind a seat. If you do not, it is a low-fuss entry into a cartridge that hits well above what a nine inch barrel usually delivers.
