Description

Most 300 Blackout ammunition is built for one of two jobs, and buying the wrong one is the most common mistake new owners of the cartridge make. The Wilson Combat 300 Blackout 110gr V-MAX is squarely a supersonic load: fast, flat by blackout standards, and built for daylight work rather than for a suppressor.

Supersonic 300 Blackout and What It Is For
The 300 Blackout was designed to do two contradictory things from a short barrel: push a heavy subsonic bullet quietly, and push a light supersonic bullet with real authority. The cartridge handles both, but no single load does both. This one commits fully to the second job, sending a 110 grain Hornady V-MAX out at 2350 feet per second from a 16 inch barrel.
That velocity puts the Wilson Combat 300 Blackout 110gr V-MAX in genuinely useful territory for hogs, coyotes and close-range deer where legal. Muzzle energy of roughly 1349 foot-pounds is comparable to a 7.62×39 and noticeably ahead of what a 220 grain subsonic load carries, and the flat trajectory inside 200 yards means you are not doing much mental math on a moving target.
Wilson Combat builds this ammunition in Berryville, Arkansas, using American brass, American bullets and low-flash powder. The low-flash part is not marketing: a bright muzzle flash at dusk costs you your night vision for the follow-up shot, and it is the sort of detail a company that also builds the rifles tends to notice.
Wilson Combat 300 Blackout 110gr V-MAX Specifications
The Hornady V-MAX is a varmint bullet by design. The polymer tip drives back into a thin copper jacket over a lead core, and the result is violent, rapid expansion at almost any impact velocity the 300 Blackout can produce. On coyotes and prairie predators that means immediate incapacitation with minimal pelt damage on exit, because there frequently is no exit.
On larger animals the same characteristic cuts both ways. A V-MAX at 2350 feet per second is devastating on a broadside lung shot and unreliable through heavy shoulder bone. Hunters using the Wilson Combat 300 Blackout 110gr V-MAX on hogs should plan for behind-the-shoulder shot placement rather than counting on the bullet to break structure.
The G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.290 is modest, which is normal for a short, light 30 caliber bullet. Practically, expect meaningful drop past 200 yards and treat 250 as an honest maximum for the load rather than a starting point.

Honest Notes on This Load
Buy the Wilson Combat 300 Blackout 110gr V-MAX if you hunt hogs or predators with a 300 Blackout carbine and want a supersonic load with a violent terminal effect. It is also a sensible general-purpose practice load for a blackout AR, since it cycles reliably without a suppressor attached.
Skip it if your goal is quiet. This is supersonic ammunition, and a suppressor will do nothing about the sonic crack. For suppressed work you want a 190 to 220 grain subsonic load instead.
Skip it also for larger game where deep penetration matters. The V-MAX is a rapid-expansion bullet, not a controlled-expansion hunting bullet, and there are better choices in the same cartridge if you need to break bone.
Building a blackout carbine? The Wilson Combat 16 inch 300 BLK barrel is the barrel this load is spec’d against. For suppressed shooting, the Hornady 190gr Sub-X subsonic is the opposite end of the cartridge. Hornady publishes full V-MAX bullet data on its own site.
