Description
The Holosun HS515CM Red Dot Sight is a micro tube red dot with Holosun’s red Multi-Reticle System, solar assist and a quick-detach riser. It is a popular, well-rounded choice for AR-15 carbines, pistol caliber carbines and tactical shotguns.
Holosun HS515CM Red Dot Sight Overview
The 515CM uses a 20mm-class round window of about 0.78 inches, typical of micro dots in the Aimpoint Micro size class. Windage and elevation adjust 0.5 MOA per click with plus or minus 50 MOA of travel, so even a rifle with an off-center rail is easy to zero. The LED is a 650nm red Super LED with 12 brightness levels including night vision settings. Holosun’s page lists different housing alloys and dimensions in different places, so we only list figures that agree.
Red Multi-Reticle System
Pick a 2 MOA dot, a 65 MOA circle, or both together. The circle-dot is excellent for home defense and fast close-range shooting because the ring catches the eye immediately, while the dot alone gives you precision for 100-yard groups. Red is the classic choice, easy on battery and familiar to most shooters.
Battery and Solar Assist
The battery slides out of a side tray without tools, so it can be replaced without removing the sight or losing zero. Holosun rates it for up to 50,000 hours at setting 6. A solar panel on top adds power in good light, and Shake Awake turns the LED off when the gun is still and wakes it when moved, so a home-defense rifle can sit ready for long periods.
QD Mount and Height
The included quick-detach lever mount puts the dot at 1.63 inches for a lower 1/3 co-witness with standard AR-15 iron sights. The QD lever makes it easy to remove the optic for cleaning or transport and return it close to zero. On shotguns with low rails, check that the height matches your cheek weld.
Why People Choose the 515
The 515 series gives you features found on far more expensive micro dots: a three-reticle menu, solar assist, auto brightness, motion activation and a QD mount, at a mid-range price. It does not have the long military track record of an Aimpoint, but it has earned a strong reputation in the civilian market for reliability.
Red vs Green Version
This listing is the red HS515CM. The green HE515CM-GR has the same body and controls with a 540nm green LED that some shooters see better in bright daylight. If you have astigmatism and red looks smeared, compare the two before choosing.
Ordering and Transfer
When you order a firearm from MAG5 Firearms, we ship it to the licensed dealer you choose. Your dealer completes the ATF Form 4473 and the background check, and may charge a transfer fee. Local buyers can complete the transfer at our shop. Bring a valid ID, and check your state waiting period before you plan a hunt or a range trip.
Safe Storage
Store the firearm unloaded in a locked safe or case, with ammunition kept separately. A cable lock or trigger lock is a good backup, especially in a home with children or visitors. Keep the original box and paperwork, and record the serial number in a safe place in case the gun is ever lost or stolen.
