Description
The Holosun HE515CM-GR Green Dot is a tube-style micro red dot for AR-15 carbines, shotguns and pistol caliber carbines, set up with a green Multi-Reticle System and a quick-detach riser. It is a sensible step up from budget dots for shooters who want a long battery life, a clear 540nm green reticle and a mount that comes off and returns to zero.
Holosun HE515CM-GR Green Dot Overview
The window is a round 20mm-class aperture, typical of micro dots, and easy to use with both eyes open. The optic attaches to any Picatinny rail with its included QD lever mount, putting the dot at 1.63 inches above the rail. Adjustments are 0.5 MOA per click with plus or minus 50 MOA of windage and elevation, so even a rifle with a canted rail or off-center barrel can be zeroed. The finish is black hard anodizing.
Green MRS Reticle Options
The Multi-Reticle System lets you choose a 2 MOA dot, a 65 MOA circle, or the circle and dot together. The large circle is outstanding for close-range work on a home-defense carbine or a turkey shotgun because your eye snaps to it immediately. The 2 MOA dot alone is better for 100-yard groups and small targets. Green at 540nm tends to stand out in daylight and against snow, and many shooters with astigmatism see it more cleanly than red.
Battery Life and Shake Awake
The side-loading battery tray means you can change the cell without removing the optic or the mount. Holosun rates battery life at 50,000 hours at setting 6, and Shake Awake turns the dot off when the rifle sits still and back on as soon as it moves. That combination lets you leave the sight on and ready in a safe or truck gun rack for months. There are 8 daylight and 4 night vision brightness settings.
Mounting and Co-Witness
Out of the box the riser sets the dot for a lower 1/3 co-witness with standard AR-15 iron sights, so your irons sit in the bottom of the window without cluttering your view. The QD lever lets you pull the optic for cleaning or to swap to a scope, and return it close to zero. On shotguns and rimfires with lower rails, check that the height lines up with your natural cheek weld before committing.
Spec Discrepancy to Know
Holosun’s own product page lists conflicting details for this model: its specification table shows 6061-T6 aluminum and no solar panel, while its feature list and our distributor describe 7075 aluminum and a Solar Failsafe. We list the conservative figures here. If solar backup is a deciding factor for you, confirm with Holosun before buying.
Honest Comparison
Compared with an Aimpoint or EOTech, the 515CM costs considerably less and offers more features, but it does not have the same decades-long duty record. Compared with budget Chinese dots, it brings better glass, a real warranty and far longer battery life. For most civilian carbines and home-defense guns it hits the sweet spot. Holosun’s product page repeats some size figures from its larger HE512T, so we have left exact dimensions off this listing until Holosun corrects them.
