Holosun part AEMS-PRO-X2-RD uses a 1.1 by 0.87 inch rectangular window that feels more open than round micro tubes, especially when your head is not perfectly aligned. The housing is hard-anodized 7075-T6 aluminum, 2.2 by 1.76 by 2.52 inches and 4.3 ounces before the mount. The X2 generation adds a revised lens design that Holosun says reduces parallax compared with earlier AEMS sights. Windage and elevation move 0.5 MOA per click with plus or minus 50 MOA of travel.

The Case for Red

Red is still the most popular reticle color. It draws the least battery power, contrasts well against green foliage and indoor backgrounds, and most shooters have trained with it for years. Holosun’s MRS gives you a 2 MOA dot alone, a 65 MOA circle alone, or the circle-dot combined. The circle-dot is the classic defensive setup: the ring draws your eye during fast shooting, and the dot keeps precise hits possible. The plain dot is best for zeroing and shooting groups. There are 8 daylight and 4 night vision brightness settings with both manual and automatic modes.

Power and Reliability

The sight runs on a coin cell in a side-loading tray, rated at 50,000 hours, so you never pull the optic to change batteries. Shake Awake powers it down when still and up when moved. A small solar cell supplements power in good light, and the enclosed emitter keeps rain and debris off the LED. Lockout mode prevents the buttons from changing settings when the rifle is stored or slung.

Mounting Notes

The supplied four-post riser places the optic at 1.63 inches over the rail, giving a lower 1/3 co-witness with standard AR-15 irons. The mount weighs about 6.1 ounces, so a complete setup is a little over ten ounces.
