Quick Detach, And What It Does Not Promise

The mount on the Holosun HS510C FDE Red Dot is a quick detach Picatinny clamp, so the Holosun HS510C FDE Red Dot comes off and goes back on without tools. That is genuinely useful: you can clean under it, move it between a carbine and a shotgun, or pull it to pack a case.

What we will not tell you is that it returns to a perfect zero every time. No quick detach mount does, whatever the marketing says, and anyone who promises otherwise is selling you confidence rather than a specification. In practice a good QD clamp returns close enough that you are still on a torso at fifty yards, but if the sight comes off, confirm your zero before you trust it for anything that matters. Put it back on the same slot on the same rail every time and the shift is smaller still.

An open reflex sight stands its lens up in the air with nothing in front of it, and on a rifle that gets slung, set down on tailgates and pushed through doorways, that lens is the vulnerable part. The Holosun HS510C FDE Red Dot puts a titanium protective hood over it to take the hit instead.

The Holosun HS510C FDE Red Dot aluminum body is finished in MAO, micro arc oxidation, rather than ordinary anodising. MAO grows a harder and more corrosion resistant layer, which is what you want on a housing that is expected to be struck rather than admired. It is also why the flat dark earth finish holds up rather than wearing to bare metal at the corners.

Multi Reticle And Solar Failsafe

The Holosun HS510C FDE Red Dot gives you a 2 MOA dot alone, a 65 MOA circle alone, or the circle with the dot inside it, all projected from one emitter so switching never moves your point of impact. Up close the ring is the thing your eye catches instantly; at distance the dot is what you aim with, and the ring becomes a rough ranging reference at a known sixty five MOA.

A solar panel on top harvests ambient light and will keep the sight running if the CR2032 dies or is removed. The cell is rated at 50,000 hours at brightness setting six and Shake Awake sleeps the optic when the rifle is still, so the practical runtime is far longer than the number suggests. Ten daylight brightness settings and two night vision settings.

Half MOA Clicks, And An Honest Word On Weight

Adjustments on the Holosun HS510C FDE Red Dot move 0.5 MOA per click across 50 MOA of travel in each direction. Half MOA clicks are finer than the category standard, so at a hundred yards each click shifts impact half an inch and you can walk a group onto the bull rather than watch it hop across it.

The Holosun HS510C FDE Red Dot weighs 4.94 ounces and measures 3.3 by 1.68 by 1.78 inches. That is substantial for a red dot and it is the price of the big window and the titanium hood. On an AR or a defensive shotgun you will not notice. On a lightweight build where every ounce has been argued over you will, and a smaller enclosed sight would serve you better. We would rather say so now than after it arrives.
