Description
The Century Arms AP5-SD wears the full-length shroud that gives the SD pattern its distinctive silhouette, but the shroud is a removable faux suppressor rather than a working one. That is worth stating plainly: nothing about this pistol is an NFA item, and it transfers like any other handgun. Underneath is the same roller-delayed 9mm action as the rest of the AP5 range, with a 5.75-inch three-lug barrel threaded 1/2×28.
The Shroud, and What It Is Not
Removable faux suppressor covering the barrel, which produces the SD outline without any sound reduction.
It is not a suppressor and requires no tax stamp, no registration and no ATF approval.
Behind it sits a 5.75-inch three-lug barrel threaded 1/2×28, so a real muzzle device can be fitted if the shroud comes off.
The Century Arms AP5-SD is a pistol, not a short-barreled rifle.
Brace, Sights and What Ships With It
Magpul MP BSL brace fitted from the factory, which is what the brace designation in the model refers to.
Fixed front sight and an adjustable rear sight, with a claw-mount 1913 Picatinny rail for optics.
Two 30-round magazines supplied, along with a sling, a cleaning kit and a hard case.
Roller-delayed blowback action with a stamped steel receiver.
Model number HG7886MB-N.

A faux suppressor divides opinion, and it is worth being clear about the trade. It adds length and a little weight to the front of the gun without reducing the sound at all, so purely on function it does nothing. What it does do is give the SD silhouette, protect the barrel, and leave the threads underneath available for an owner who later goes through the process of acquiring a real suppressor. MAG5 Firearms does not sell NFA items, so that would have to be sourced separately and cleared through ATF approval.
Why it is worth considering
- Genuine roller-delayed action, not a blowback imitation.
- Removable shroud over a real three-lug 1/2×28 threaded barrel.
- Magpul MP BSL brace fitted from the factory.
- Two magazines, sling, cleaning kit and hard case included.
- Claw-mount Picatinny rail for optics without modifying the receiver.
Who it suits
Shooters who want the SD look without NFA paperwork are the obvious buyers, and the package is unusually complete for the money: two magazines, a sling, a case and a brace all in the box. Anyone planning to add a real suppressor later should know the shroud comes off and the threads are already there, which makes this a sensible host to build toward.

AP5 Variants and Feeding It
Century imports the AP5 in several configurations. The AP5-P is the same 5.75-inch barrel without the shroud, and the 8.9-inch Navy model is the full-length pistol. Browse the rest of the Century Arms range or the wider firearms catalog. Century publishes model specifications at Century Arms.
Roller-delayed guns prefer full-power ammunition. Standard-pressure 115-grain and 124-grain loads cycle reliably; very light target ammunition can short-stroke a tight new action. 115-grain brass-cased ball is a sensible break-in load, with a 124-grain jacketed hollow point for defensive use. All firearm orders ship to a licensed FFL dealer for transfer, and MAG5 Firearms will coordinate the paperwork with the dealer of your choice.
On cleaning: roller-delayed actions run dirtier at the chamber than gas guns, because the fluted chamber deliberately floats the case on a film of gas to ease extraction. Sooty cases are normal. The shroud unscrews for access to the barrel, which makes cleaning simpler than the outline suggests.
