The Century Arms AP5-P is the short-barrelled member of the AP5 family: the same roller-delayed 9mm action in a 5.75-inch barrel and a shortened handguard. It is made by MKE in Turkey on tooling licensed from the original design and imported by Century Arms. Capacity is 30+1.

Short Barrel, Same Action

Shortening the barrel on a roller-delayed gun costs less than it would on a gas-operated design, because the action does not depend on a gas port at a particular point along the bore. What you lose is velocity and a little sight radius; what you gain is a package short enough to handle in a vehicle or a hallway. Muzzle blast increases noticeably, so hearing protection matters more than it does on the 8.9-inch version.

Roller-delayed guns prefer full-power ammunition, and that is more true on a short barrel than a long one. Standard-pressure 115-grain and 124-grain loads cycle reliably; very light target ammunition can short-stroke a tight new action. 115-grain brass-cased ball is a sensible break-in load, with a 124-grain jacketed hollow point for defensive use. On cleaning: roller-delayed actions run dirtier at the chamber than gas guns, because the fluted chamber deliberately floats the case on a film of gas to ease extraction. Sooty cases are normal and not a fault. Expect the chamber to need a brush rather than a patch.
