Browning X-Bolt 2 Speed LR 7mm Rem Mag Overview
The X-Bolt 2 is the newest version of the Browning flagship bolt action, with a redesigned receiver and bolt. The Speed LR takes the Speed formula and stretches it for longer shots: a longer barrel for more velocity, a brake to keep you on target for follow up shots, and a higher capacity magazine. It weighs about a pound more than the standard Speed, which most shooters find steadier off a pack or bipod.
Vari-Tech Adjustable Stock
The Vari-Tech composite stock adjusts for length of pull, comb height and grip angle, so you can set the rifle up for a heavy coat or a summer shirt and get your eye lined up behind the scope. Browning lists a 13 5/8 inch base length of pull, and the OVIX camo pattern blends into a wide range of terrain. Photos show an accessory rail under the forend for a bipod.
Long Fluted Barrel and Brake
The 26 inch sporter weight barrel is fluted to save weight and has a 1:8 twist. The belled muzzle is threaded 5/8-24 and wears a radial muzzle brake. Brakes cut felt recoil noticeably, but they are loud, so always wear hearing protection and warn anyone shooting beside you.
About Suppressors
Because the muzzle is threaded 5/8-24, you can remove the brake and mount a suppressor. A suppressor is an NFA item. It requires an approved ATF Form 4 and registration, wait times vary, and some states do not allow them at all. MAG5 does not sell NFA items.
Plus Magazine System
The Plus Magazine System is a detachable box magazine that holds more rounds than the flush rotary magazine on the standard Speed. Spare magazines are sold by Browning, and the rifle still uses the familiar X-Bolt top tang safety and bolt unlock button.
Smoked Bronze Cerakote
The barrel and receiver wear Smoked Bronze Cerakote, a tough ceramic coating that resists rust, scratches and solvents, so the rifle can handle rain, snow and long days bouncing around in a truck.
The 7mm Rem Mag Cartridge
The 7mm Remington Magnum delivers flat trajectories and strong energy for elk, mule deer and open country hunting, with recoil that most shooters handle well, especially with the muzzle brake.
Mounting a Scope
The X-Bolt family uses its own scope mounting pattern, so buy bases or rings made for the X-Bolt, such as Browning Integrated Scope Mount System, rather than Remington 700 style bases.
Cleaning and Care
Clean the bore after each range session and remove the muzzle brake occasionally to clean the threads. Keep a light coat of oil on the bolt and wipe the rifle down after a wet hunt.
State Laws
Bolt action rifles are legal in most places, but hunting rules on calibers, seasons and magazine capacity vary. Check your state game laws. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
