Description

Bersa TPR9 Duotone 9mm double action pistol with nickel slide and black alloy frame

The Bersa TPR9 Duotone 9mm is a full size, metal framed, hammer fired service pistol at a price where almost everything else is polymer and striker fired. Bersa builds it in Argentina on an aluminium alloy frame with a steel slide, and the two tone finish is where the name comes from.

Bersa TPR9 Duotone 9mm Frame, Slide and Barrel

The frame is aluminium alloy with a matte black finish and a Picatinny rail moulded into the dust cover for a light or a laser. Alloy is the middle ground between steel and polymer, adding enough weight to settle recoil without the heft of an all steel pistol.

The slide is steel with a nickel Cerakote finish and front and rear serrations. Underneath it is a 4.25 in. barrel with polygonal rifling, which supports the bullet on a smoother surface than conventional lands and grooves and generally delivers slightly higher velocity and easier cleaning.

Action, Controls and Sights

The action is traditional double action and single action. The first shot from the hammer down position is a long, deliberate pull of roughly 7.5 lbs., and every shot after that breaks at about 3 lbs. as the slide cocks the hammer. For a home defence or duty pistol many shooters still prefer that longer first pull.

Controls are ambidextrous, and the lever works as both a manual safety and a decocker, so you can lower the hammer safely on a loaded chamber without touching the trigger. An automatic firing pin safety blocks the pin until the trigger is fully pressed.

Sights are a fixed three dot arrangement in the Sig Sauer pattern, which is worth knowing because it means aftermarket night sights and fibre optics are readily available rather than a special order.

Why a Metal Frame Still Matters

Thirty ounces sounds heavy next to a twenty two ounce polymer pistol, and on a belt all day it is. On the range the difference goes the other way, because that mass absorbs recoil and the muzzle returns to the target faster between shots.

For a nightstand gun, a truck gun or a range pistol where carry weight is not the priority, an alloy frame with a steel slide is a better shooting platform than a polymer equivalent at the same price. That is the trade this pistol asks you to make.

Why Buyers Choose the Bersa TPR9 Duotone 9mm

Value is the honest answer. A hammer fired, metal framed, seventeen round service pistol with ambidextrous controls, a decocker, a rail and two magazines usually costs considerably more than this one does.

Bersa has been building this style of pistol for decades and the design borrows heavily from proven European service guns, so nothing about it is experimental. The Sig pattern sight cut also means upgrading the sights later is easy.

Who Should Buy It

The Bersa TPR9 Duotone 9mm suits shooters who want a full size home defence pistol without spending eight hundred dollars, people who prefer a hammer and a decocker to a striker, and anyone building a first handgun collection who wants metal rather than polymer. It is also a sound choice for a range pistol that new shooters will find easy to handle.
