Description

The Beretta 92FS Brigadier Inox in 9mm, part number J92F560CA, is the heavy slide version of the 92 in stainless, built to California’s ten round configuration. The barrel is 4.90 inches, the slide is satin stainless, and the grips are black Hogue wraparound rubber. Brigadier is not a trim level. The slide is physically thicker through the dust cover area and the locking block cut, which adds weight where it does the most good and gives Beretta more steel around the part of the gun that works hardest.

This is the California compliant build, so it ships with ten round magazines and is configured for sale in that state.

What the Brigadier slide actually changes

The extra slide mass slows the cycle slightly and settles the muzzle sooner, so the second shot arrives with the sights closer to where you left them.

Beretta introduced the heavier slide after service use showed where the standard slide was working hardest. More steel around the locking block area is the practical result.

It also takes dovetailed front sights, so sight changes are a gunsmith job rather than a factory only option.

The cost is a few ounces and a slightly wider profile. On a gun that is already full sized and not a carry pistol, neither matters much.

Inox, Hogue grips and the California configuration

Satin stainless handles sweat and humidity far better than blued steel, which matters on a gun that will be handled a great deal.

The Hogue wraparound rubber grip fills the backstrap and takes the finger grooves further round than the factory panels, which suits larger hands and softens an already mild recoil impulse.

Ten plus one is the California configuration. Shooters outside the state who want fifteen should look at the standard capacity Brigadier builds.

Everything else is unchanged: open slide, falling locking block, ambidextrous safety and decocker, reversible magazine release.

Cartridge dimensions and pressures are standardized by SAAMI. For practice we stock 115 grain 9mm brass cased full metal jacket, which is the load most 92s are happiest on. This gun is built to the California configuration; buyers outside California who want full capacity should compare the standard Brigadier, the plain stainless gun is the 92FS Inox, and the California compliant standard slide version is the Inox CA 10 round. Check your own state and local rules before ordering, since capacity limits vary and we cannot advise on them.

Why it is worth considering

  • A heavier Brigadier slide, which settles the muzzle sooner between shots.
  • Satin stainless, for a gun that will see sweat or humidity.
  • Hogue wraparound rubber grips, which suit larger hands and soften the impulse further.
  • Dovetailed front sight, so sight changes are possible later.
  • The same open slide action that made the 92 what it is.

Who it suits

This suits a California buyer who wants the heavy slide 92 in stainless, or anyone outside the state who prefers a ten round gun and does not mind the weight. It is a full sized pistol and a poor concealment choice. Every handgun we sell ships to a licensed FFL for transfer.

Beretta 92FS Brigadier Inox 9mm pistol with satin stainless slide and black Hogue wraparound grips

Living with a Beretta 92FS Brigadier

These pistols reward being left alone. The locking block is the one part that wears, and Beretta sells it as a service item; a shooter putting real volume through the gun should plan on replacing it somewhere past ten thousand rounds rather than waiting for it to crack. Recoil and hammer springs are cheap and worth refreshing at the same interval.

Magazines matter more than most owners expect. The factory 92 magazine is well made but the finish on older ones can drag; a shooter running this gun hard is better served buying a few new magazines than cleaning tired ones. Ten round California magazines and full capacity magazines share the same body, so the ones you buy will fit the gun for as long as you own it.

Beyond that there is very little to do. Keep the rails lightly oiled, keep the locking block clean, and the gun will outlast the person who bought it.
