Description
The Beretta 92FS Inox in 9mm, part number JS92F500, is the stainless version of the pistol that served as the United States military sidearm for three decades. The slide and barrel are matte stainless, the frame is aluminium alloy, the grips are black rubber, and two fifteen round magazines ship in the box. The barrel is 4.9 inches, the sights are a three dot arrangement, and the action is the open slide short recoil design Beretta has built since 1975. This is a United States made gun rather than an Italian import.
Inox is not a cosmetic option. It is the version to buy if the gun will live somewhere humid, spend time in a vehicle, or be handled a great deal by someone whose hands sweat.
Why the open slide design still matters
The 92 has no conventional ejection port. The top of the slide is cut away entirely, which means a spent case has nowhere to catch and a fresh round has an unobstructed path into the chamber.
That is the main reason these pistols developed the reputation they have for feeding anything. Stoppages that plague closed slide guns simply have fewer places to happen.
The locking block is a falling block rather than a tilting barrel, so the barrel stays level throughout the cycle. It is part of why the 92 shoots as flat as it does.
The tradeoff is size. This is a full sized service pistol with a wide grip, and no amount of admiration for the design makes it a concealed carry gun.
What the Beretta 92FS Inox gives you
Matte stainless slide and barrel over an alloy frame, which handles sweat and humidity far better than the blued version.
A 4.9 inch barrel and a long sight radius, which is a large part of why the 92 is so easy to shoot well.
Two fifteen round magazines in the box rather than one, which is increasingly rare at this price.
Reversible magazine release and ambidextrous safety and decocker, so left handed shooters are not an afterthought.

Cartridge dimensions and pressures are standardized by SAAMI. For practice we stock 115 grain 9mm brass cased full metal jacket, which is the load most 92s are happiest on. The rubber grips that ship with this gun are thicker than the plastic panels, so shooters with smaller hands may want to swap them; the standard 92 panels fit without modification. Buyers who want the blued version should compare the 92FS 15 round, California shooters should look at the 10 round Inox, and anyone who wants the heavier slide should compare the 92FS Brigadier.
Every handgun we sell ships to a licensed FFL for transfer.
Why it is worth considering
- Matte stainless where it matters, for a gun that will see sweat or humidity.
- An open slide design with very little for a case or a cartridge to catch on.
- Two fifteen round magazines in the box.
- A 4.9 inch barrel and a long sight radius, which flatters most shooters.
- Ambidextrous safety and decocker, and a reversible magazine release.
Who it suits
This suits a shooter who wants a full sized service pistol to keep rather than a carry gun, and who would rather have stainless than blued steel for a gun that gets handled. It is too large and too heavy for concealment, and shooters with small hands should handle one before buying, because the grip is wide.
