Description
A-Zoom 8×57 Mauser Snap Caps are machined aluminum dummy rounds cut to 8x57mm JS dimensions, two to a pack. The rifles chambered for it are almost entirely K98k Mausers, their derivatives and sporters built on the same action, and none of them are getting new parts made.
How A-Zoom 8×57 Mauser Snap Caps Are Built
Each round is CNC machined from solid aluminum billet to full cartridge dimensions and hard anodized red. One piece, no separate case head, no plastic body, so nothing can shear off and leave a case body in the chamber.
The primer end carries a proprietary polymer cushion instead of a live primer, rated by A-Zoom past three thousand strikes. A Mauser 98 striker is a long, substantial part under a heavy spring, and that cushion is what absorbs the strike instead of the pin tip.

Feeding is the first job. Field Notes
Controlled round feed is worth testing specifically. A Mauser extractor claw that has been bent or replaced badly will fail to pick up a cartridge, and the only way to find that is to cycle rounds through the magazine slowly and watch. Parts scarcity is the other argument. Original K98k strikers and firing pin assemblies are a collector market rather than a catalog item.
The polymer cushion is a consumable. When the face is deeply cratered and stops rebounding, retire that round rather than continuing to strike a dead cushion.
Collectors get a quieter benefit too. Working the action on a rifle you would rather not shoot much confirms everything still functions, and doing it on a machined dummy introduces no chamber wear and no residue.
