Description

A-Zoom 6.5×55 Swedish Snap Caps are machined aluminum dummy rounds cut to 6.5x55mm Swedish Mauser dimensions, two to a pack. Most rifles in this chambering are hundred year old M96 and M38 Mausers or sporters built on them, and none of those are getting new firing pins made.
How A-Zoom 6.5×55 Swedish Snap Caps Are Built
Each round is CNC machined from solid aluminum billet to full cartridge dimensions and hard anodized red. One piece, no separate case head, no plastic body. Nothing can shear off and leave a case body in the chamber of a rifle whose bolt you would rather not strip on a bench.
The primer end carries a proprietary polymer cushion instead of a live primer, rated by A-Zoom past three thousand strikes. A Swedish Mauser striker runs under a strong spring and has been doing so since before the First World War, and that cushion is what keeps it from taking the full stop.
The red anodizing makes A-Zoom 6.5×55 Swedish Snap Caps obviously inert, which is useful when surplus and modern 6.5×55 are both on the bench and the difference matters a great deal.
Where Two Rounds Earn Their Keep
Feeding is the first job. The 6.5×55 is a long, slim cartridge in a five round staggered magazine loaded from a stripper clip, and a tired follower spring or worn feed lips show up the moment you cycle A-Zoom 6.5×55 Swedish Snap Caps by hand.
The second is simply working the action. A Swedish Mauser has one of the smoothest bolts ever made, and the temptation to cycle it repeatedly is real. Doing that with a dummy round in the chamber means the striker lands on something soft each time rather than on nothing at all.

Field Notes
Parts scarcity is the strongest argument. M96 and M38 strikers and cocking pieces are a collector market rather than a catalog item, and A-Zoom 6.5×55 Swedish Snap Caps cost a fraction of chasing a replacement.
They are also right for a modern sporter. Plenty of current production rifles are chambered in 6.5×55, and the cartridge long-seats beautifully in a magnum length magazine, which is exactly the situation where checking overall length with a machined dummy pays off.
The polymer cushion is a consumable. When the face is deeply cratered and stops rebounding, retire that round rather than continuing to strike a dead cushion.
Collectors get a quieter benefit as well. Working the action on a rifle you would rather not shoot much confirms everything still functions, and doing it on a machined dummy adds no chamber wear and no residue to a gun that gets cleaned rarely.
Working on other Mauser chamberings? The line also covers 8×57 Mauser and 7×57 Mauser. Construction details are published by A-Zoom.
For Swedish Mauser owners and anyone shooting a modern 6.5×55, A-Zoom 6.5×55 Swedish Snap Caps are cheap insurance on irreplaceable parts. MAG5 Firearms stocks them as manufacturer item PA12251 in the two pack.
