Description

A-Zoom 7×57 Mauser Snap Caps are machined aluminum dummy rounds cut to 7x57mm Mauser dimensions, two to a pack. The 7×57 has been in service since 1892 and still turns up in Spanish and Chilean Mausers, sporterised military rifles and a steady trickle of modern hunting rifles.
How A-Zoom 7×57 Mauser Snap Caps Are Built
Each round is CNC machined from solid aluminum billet to full cartridge dimensions and hard anodized red. One piece, no separate case head, no plastic body. Nothing can shear off and leave a case body stuck in a chamber you would rather not be probing at.
The primer end carries a proprietary polymer cushion instead of a live primer, rated by A-Zoom past three thousand strikes. Mauser strikers are long and run under heavy springs, and on rifles that are well over a century old that cushion is doing genuinely useful work.
The red anodizing makes A-Zoom 7×57 Mauser Snap Caps obviously inert, which matters when older and modern 7×57 ammunition loaded to very different pressures are both around.
Where Two Rounds Earn Their Keep
Feeding is the main job. A Mauser internal magazine holds five staggered rounds charged from a stripper clip, and controlled round feed means the extractor has to pick up the rim as the cartridge leaves the magazine. Cycling A-Zoom 7×57 Mauser Snap Caps slowly by hand is how you confirm that still works.
The other is trigger and safety checking. Sporterised military rifles frequently wear aftermarket triggers and safeties, and every one of those installations deserves a function check with an inert round in the chamber.

Field Notes
Pressure matters on this cartridge. Many 7×57 rifles are small ring Mausers rated for lower pressures than modern loads, which is a good reason to do as much handling and checking as possible with A-Zoom 7×57 Mauser Snap Caps rather than live ammunition.
Parts scarcity is the other argument. Original Mauser strikers and firing pin assemblies for the older patterns are a collector market rather than a catalog item.
The polymer cushion is a consumable. When the face is deeply cratered and stops rebounding, retire that round rather than continuing to strike a dead cushion.
Handloaders will find a third use. The 7×57 is often loaded with long, heavy for calibre bullets, and comparing your own rounds against a machined dummy is a fast check on whether they will fit the magazine before you build a batch.
Working on other Mauser chamberings? The line also covers 8×57 Mauser and 6.5×55 Swedish. Construction details are published by A-Zoom.
For Mauser collectors and hunters running a 7×57, A-Zoom 7×57 Mauser Snap Caps are cheap insurance on parts that are no longer made. MAG5 Firearms stocks them as manufacturer item PA12232 in the two pack.
