Description
The Barrett Model 99 50 BMG 32in Black is the heavy barrel configuration of Barrett single shot 50, finished in black Cerakote. It is the least compromised accuracy setup Barrett offers in this calibre: a fixed breech, no magazine, no cycling parts, and a 32 inch heavy barrel that refuses to whip. At 25 pounds and 50 inches it is not a rifle you carry far, and it is not meant to be.
It is meant to sit on a bipod or a bench and put rounds through the same hole at distances where most rifles have given up. It is also eight pounds lighter than a semi automatic Model 82A1, which puts that weight in perspective.
What the Heavy Barrel Buys on the Barrett Model 99 50 BMG 32in Black
Stiffness is the first thing. A heavy profile barrel resists the harmonic flex that opens groups, and it heats more slowly, which matters on a cartridge moving this much energy through a bore. Across a long string it holds zero noticeably better than the fluted barrel.
The extra three inches add a little velocity as well. On 50 BMG the gain from 29 to 32 inches is modest, but retained energy at distance is the entire point of the rifle, so modest gains are worth having.
Everything else is shared across the Model 99 line: a match quality trigger, a 13.75 inch rail with 27 MOA of built in cant, a three port high efficiency muzzle brake and a rear hand grip that takes an adjustable monopod.
Practical Ownership Notes
The single shot action is the honest trade. Lift the bolt, extract by hand, feed a round, close and re settle for every shot. For deliberate long range shooting that is no loss at all, and it is precisely why the rifle shoots the way it does. If you want a fast second shot, buy the semi automatic Model 82A1.
Blast is severe. The three port brake works extremely well and pushes an enormous volume of gas sideways, which is why many ranges either prohibit large bore rifles or confine them to their own bay. Confirm before you make the trip.
Ammunition will be your limiting factor. Match grade 50 BMG is priced per round; surplus and steel case is cheaper and inconsistent enough that lot variation shows on paper. On a heavy barrel rifle built for precision, cheap ammunition wastes what you paid for.

Why it is worth considering
- The stiffest, most accuracy focused 50 BMG configuration Barrett builds
- A heavy 32 inch barrel that holds zero through a long string
- Fixed breech single shot action with nothing cycling under recoil
- Match quality trigger and a 27 MOA rail as standard
- Eight pounds lighter than a semi automatic Barrett 50 despite the heavy barrel
Who it suits
This suits the bench and prone shooter chasing the smallest groups a factory 50 BMG will deliver, who does not need to carry the rifle far. If portability matters, the 29 inch fluted version is the better buy at a small cost in consistency.

Ammunition, Optics and Transfer Notes for the Barrett Model 99 50 BMG 32in Black
Ammunition quality is the single biggest lever on what this rifle will do on paper. Match grade 50 BMG comes from a handful of manufacturers and is priced per round; surplus and steel case is affordable and variable enough that lot to lot differences are visible in a group. On a heavy match barrel that is the wrong place to save money. Commercial cartridge standards are published by SAAMI.
The 13.75 inch rail is shorter than the ones on the semi automatic Barretts, so measure eye relief before choosing rings. Its 27 MOA of built in cant exists so a first focal plane scope with generous elevation still has travel left at extreme range; an optic that cannot use that cant leaves the feature on the table.
Confirm your local law before ordering, since 50 BMG rifles are prohibited in California and restricted in some municipalities. The same configuration is listed in Flat Dark Earth, the lighter 29 inch fluted version is the one to carry, and more of our stock is on the MAG5 Firearms shop page. This rifle ships to a licensed dealer of your choosing, where you will complete a 4473 and a NICS check.
