Description

The Wilson Combat NULA 20 308 Winchester is Melvin Forbes New Ultra Light Arms design built by Wilson Combat, wearing an AG Composites carbon fiber stock in the Canyon Rogue pattern. It weighs a little over five pounds with a 20 inch barrel and still carries a sub MOA guarantee.
Wilson Combat NULA 20 308 Winchester Barrel and Muzzle
The 20 in. barrel is Wilson Combat 416R stainless, button rifled and double stress relieved in house. Double stress relief is the step that keeps a thin barrel from walking its zero as it heats, and it is exactly what budget lightweight rifles leave out.
Rifling is a 1:10 twist, which is the standard pitch for 308 Winchester and handles everything from 150 grain hunting loads to 175 grain match bullets. The muzzle is threaded and ships with a thread protector, so a suppressor or a brake goes on whenever you decide you want one.
A 20 inch barrel is the right length for this cartridge in a hunting rifle. 308 Winchester burns its powder quickly, so you lose very little velocity against a 24 inch tube while gaining four inches of handiness in timber, in a blind and on a pack.
Action, Stock and Trigger
The receiver is fully machined and EDM cut from 4140 bar stock with a 4340 bolt, and the barrelled action is finished in Wilson Combat Armor-Tuff. The bottom metal is hard anodized aluminium with a hinged floorplate holding four rounds, and the receiver is drilled for 8-40 base screws rather than the usual 6-48, which matters once you hang a real scope on it.
The stock is an AG Composites carbon fiber shell in Canyon Rogue, a tan, bone and black pattern that suits open, dry country. Length of pull is 13.5 in. and the trigger is a Timney Elite Hunter breaking between 2.75 and 3.25 lbs.

What a Five Pound Rifle Changes
The gap between a five pound rifle and an eight pound rifle stops being theoretical a few miles into a day on foot. You carry it more comfortably, you mount it faster, and you are steadier when the shot finally comes, which is the only moment that counts.
The trade is that recoil is more noticeable and the rifle punishes lazy position work. 308 Winchester is a sensible pairing here because it is mild enough to stay pleasant in a rifle this light while still being entirely adequate for deer, black bear and hogs.
Why Buyers Choose the Wilson Combat NULA 20 308 Winchester
This is the rifle that created the ultralight category rather than a standard rifle with weight cut out of it. The action, the stock and the barrel contour were all designed together around light weight, which is why it shoots better than its heft suggests.
The parts list is also the one experienced buyers would specify themselves. A Timney trigger, an AG Composites stock, 8-40 base screws and an Armor-Tuff finish are usually aftermarket additions on other rifles.
Who Should Buy It
The Wilson Combat NULA 20 308 Winchester suits hunters who walk a long way for one shot, guides and outfitters who carry a rifle every day of the season, timber and mixed country deer hunters who want a short handy rifle, and anyone who has decided a heavy rifle is no longer worth the trouble. Pair it with a compact scope so the balance stays where the designers put it.
