The Wilson Combat NULA 20 243 Winchester is the New Ultra Light Arms design built by Wilson Combat, chambered in a mild, flat shooting cartridge and dressed in an AG Composites carbon fiber stock in the Canyon Rogue pattern. It weighs about five pounds and still carries a sub MOA guarantee.

Wilson Combat NULA 20 243 Winchester Barrel and Muzzle

The 20 in. barrel is Wilson Combat 416R stainless, button rifled and double stress relieved in house. That stress relief is what keeps a light contour barrel from wandering as it warms, and it is the step inexpensive lightweight rifles skip.

Rifling is a 1:8 twist, which is faster than the old 1:10 standard for 243 Winchester and the reason this rifle handles the heavy, high ballistic coefficient 100 to 108 grain bullets that have made the cartridge interesting again. Lighter 55 to 80 grain varmint loads still shoot fine.

The muzzle is threaded and comes with a thread protector. A suppressor makes a lot of sense on a 243, because the cartridge is already quiet on the shoulder and a can turns it into a rifle you can shoot all afternoon.

Action, Stock and Trigger

The receiver is fully machined and EDM cut from 4140 bar stock with a 4340 bolt, and the barrelled action wears a Wilson Combat Armor-Tuff finish. Bottom metal is hard anodized aluminium with a hinged floorplate holding four rounds, and the receiver is drilled for 8-40 base screws instead of the smaller 6-48, which matters when you mount a scope worth using.

The stock is an AG Composites carbon fiber shell in Canyon Rogue, a tan, bone and black pattern suited to open, dry country. Length of pull is 13.5 in. and a Timney Elite Hunter trigger breaks between 2.75 and 3.25 lbs.
