Description

The Weatherby 307 Alpine MDT 300 PRC is a genuinely light chassis rifle chambered in the magnum most long range hunters would choose today. Weatherby Model 307 action sits in the MDT HNT26 magnesium and carbon fiber chassis, and the whole rifle comes in at 6.9 lbs. with a folding stock.
Weatherby 307 Alpine MDT 300 PRC Barrel and Muzzle
The barrel is 26 inches, spiral fluted and finished in Graphite Black Cerakote. That length is what 300 PRC was designed around, since the case runs a large charge of slow powder behind long, heavy bullets and needs the room to develop its velocity.
The muzzle is threaded 1/2-28 and carries an Accubrake, bringing barrel and brake to 28 inches together. In a rifle under seven pounds chambered in a 300 magnum, the brake does serious work. Take it off and a suppressor threads on in its place.
MDT HNT26 Chassis and Folding Stock
The HNT26 chassis is built from magnesium and carbon fiber and weighs about 26 ounces on its own, which is why this rifle weighs what a walnut stocked hunting rifle weighs rather than what a chassis rifle usually weighs. The buttstock folds to the side and drops overall length from 48.25 in. to roughly 36.25 in.
It carries an adjustable cheekpiece, adjustable length of pull, a vertical grip and an integrated ARCA rail, so a bipod, a tripod clamp or a barricade stop mounts without adapters. It feeds from detachable AICS pattern magazines, which are easy to find and quick to change.
Action and Finish
The Model 307 action is a two lug, fully cylindrical design on the Remington 700 footprint, so triggers, bases, rails and bottom metal from the aftermarket all fit. Receiver, bolt, bolt knob and barrel are all Graphite Black Cerakote, which handles weather and cleaning solvents far better than bluing does.

Why 300 PRC
300 PRC was designed from a clean sheet around long, high ballistic coefficient bullets seated where they belong, instead of being asked to work with a case shape drawn up in the 1960s. Against 300 Winchester Magnum it gains a real edge in wind drift at distance while giving up nothing in energy.
Wind, not drop, is what decides hits on game past four hundred yards, and that is where the newer cartridge earns its place. Factory ammunition from Hornady, Federal and Berger is widely available, and brass is easy to source for handloaders.
Why Buyers Choose the Weatherby 307 Alpine MDT 300 PRC
Chassis rifles are normally heavy and light rifles normally give up adjustability. Using magnesium and carbon fiber instead of aluminium lets this one do both. You get an adjustable cheekpiece, adjustable length of pull, an ARCA rail, AICS magazines and a folding stock at a weight most hunting rifles cannot match.
The folding stock is also a travel feature. Under 37 inches folded, the rifle fits case and luggage dimensions a fixed stock magnum cannot, which matters before a fly in hunt.
Who Should Buy It
The Weatherby 307 Alpine MDT 300 PRC suits long range elk and moose hunters, hunters who fly or ride into their country, and shooters who want tripod and barricade capability in a rifle they can still carry all day. Recoil is honest in a 6.9 lb. 300 PRC even braked, so plan on shorter, focused range sessions rather than long strings.
