Description
The Raging Hunter 500 6.75-inch two-tone sits in the middle of the range, and for most hunters it is the length that makes the most sense. Long enough that the .500 S&W Magnum is producing sensible velocity, short enough to carry in a chest rig without fighting brush all day.
On the Raging Hunter 500 6.75, a matte stainless frame carries a matte black oxide cylinder and a black ported barrel with a target crown, and there is a full-length Picatinny rail machined into the top of the shroud. Five rounds of the most powerful cartridge in general production.
What the 6.75-inch barrel gives you
- The Raging Hunter 500 6.75 makes meaningfully more velocity than the 5.12-inch gun, without the weight and awkwardness of the ten-inch
- Longer sight radius and more rail to position an optic where your eye actually sits
- Dual-stage gas expansion ports cut into the top of the shroud, with a target crown at the muzzle
- Matte stainless frame, matte black oxide cylinder and black anodized shroud in the two-tone finish
- Cushioned rubber grip with a soft insert down the backstrap, which on the Raging Hunter 500 6.75 is doing serious work
- Adjustable rear sight and an exposed hammer for deliberate single-action shots
- Five rounds of .500 S&W Magnum, enough for anything that walks in North America

Choosing between the three barrel lengths
- 5.12 inch: the carrying gun. Loudest, most muzzle blast, least velocity, easiest to wear
- 6.75 inch: the compromise most hunters land on, and the one we sell most of
- 8.38 and 10 inch: bench and scoped work, where the extra velocity is worth the bulk
- The Raging Hunter 500 6.75 still kicks hard. The porting and the grip make it manageable, not gentle
- Doubled hearing protection is not optional with a ported .500, and nobody should stand beside you on the line
- Lighter .500 loads exist and are worth buying for practice. A 350-grain round teaches the same trigger at half the punishment

The .500 S&W Magnum is a standardised cartridge with chamber dimensions and maximum pressures published by SAAMI. Given what it produces, that matters: buy factory ammunition for this one unless you are an experienced handloader with the right data in front of you.
One practical thing that catches people out. Full-power .500 loads generate enough recoil to move bullets in the remaining chambers forward under inertia, and a bullet that jumps its crimp will tie up the cylinder. It is rare with quality factory ammunition and common with soft handloads. If a Raging Hunter 500 6.75 ever binds after two or three shots, that is almost certainly why, and the fix is better ammunition rather than a trip to a gunsmith.
Why this revolver earns its place
- The barrel length that balances velocity against carrying weight
- A factory Picatinny rail, which on a hunting handgun is worth more than almost any other feature
- Porting and a cushioned grip that make the Raging Hunter 500 6.75 controllable by a practised shooter
- Stainless frame and black oxide cylinder, both of which handle wet weather well
- Adjustable irons as a backup if an optic fails in the field
- The most powerful production revolver cartridge there is, in its most usable configuration
Handgun hunters, guides and anyone spending time where a large animal might take an interest. The Raging Hunter 500 6.75 is a working gun rather than a range toy, and it is bought by people who intend to carry it somewhere.
For a shorter, handier gun, the 5.12-inch two-tone and the 5.12-inch black are the carrying lengths. For more barrel, look at the 8.38-inch two-tone, the 10-inch black or the 10-inch two-tone.
If the ammunition cost of a .500 puts you off, the .460 S&W Raging Hunter takes .454 Casull and .45 Colt in the same cylinder, which makes regular practice far more affordable.
Every Raging Hunter we ship comes with the factory case, the manual and a lock. Transfers go to your FFL and our end of the paperwork is done the same day.
