Description
The Taurus Judge Home Defender is the Judge stretched out to a 13-inch barrel, catalogued as 2-JHD441013MAG. Five rounds of 45 Colt or 410 up to 3-inch magnum shells, a matte black steel barrel, cylinder and frame, a polymer forend and Picatinny rail sections top and bottom.
Thirteen inches changes what this platform can do. Every short Judge fights the fact that a rifled barrel opens a shot pattern quickly and wastes powder out of a stub; the Taurus Judge Home Defender has enough barrel to burn the charge and enough sight radius to aim rather than point. It is still a handgun in law, because there is no shoulder stock, but it handles like nothing else in the category.
MAG5 Firearms has it in stock. It ships to a licensed FFL on a signed 4473 like any other handgun, and we coordinate the transfer with your dealer.
What the long barrel and the rails add
- A 13-inch barrel gives the 410 shot column time to settle and the 45 Colt charge room to burn.
- A full-length top rail for a red dot or a low-power optic, which a 3-inch Judge has nowhere to mount.
- A bottom rail on the forend for a light, which on a home-defense gun is not optional.
- A polymer forend that gives the support hand somewhere proper to go, unlike any conventional revolver.
- The Taurus Judge Home Defender takes 3-inch magnum 410 shells as well as 2-1/2 inch loads and 45 Colt.

What it is, legally and practically
- This is a handgun, not a shotgun or a rifle. It has a revolver grip and no shoulder stock, which is what keeps it in the handgun category.
- Fitting a shoulder stock would create a short-barrelled firearm requiring ATF approval and a tax stamp. MAG5 Firearms does not sell National Firearms Act items and this gun should not be converted.
- Long-barrelled handguns are treated differently in a small number of states, so confirm yours before ordering.
- Two hands and a forend make the Taurus Judge Home Defender far steadier than a conventional revolver at the same distance.
- Transfer bar safety and an exposed hammer, so it runs single or double action with all five chambers loaded.

Both chamberings are produced to the dimensional and pressure standards published by SAAMI, so factory ammunition from any reputable maker is appropriate. The barrel is still rifled, so 410 patterns open faster than they would from a smoothbore even at this length — what you gain over a short Judge is a usable pattern where there was none. We stock Sellier & Bellot 410 3-inch 00 buckshot and Remington Performance WheelGun 45 Colt.
The same gun in a tungsten finish is the Judge Home Defender in tungsten. For a conventional revolver with a long barrel, see the Judge Magnum 6.5, and for something carryable the Judge Compact. Browse our other revolvers too.
Why the Home Defender earns its place
- The Taurus Judge Home Defender is the only version of this platform with enough barrel to make the 410 chambering genuinely useful.
- Rails top and bottom mean an optic and a light, neither of which fits on a standard Judge.
- A forend and two hands on the gun make it steadier than any revolver of the same weight.
- Five rounds of 45 Colt at close to the cartridge’s real potential.
- Taurus backs it with a limited lifetime repair policy that follows the firearm rather than the original buyer.
This is a house gun and a property gun. The Taurus Judge Home Defender suits someone who wants the simplicity of a revolver with the handling of something longer, and who values the ability to load shot or a large-bore cartridge from the same cylinder. It stores easily in a closet or behind a seat, and the rails mean it can be set up properly rather than left bare.
Ordering is simple. Choose it, tell us which FFL should receive it, and we handle the dealer side. Check your state allows the configuration first, and call us if you have not lined up a transfer dealer.
