Description
The Taurus Judge Magnum 6.5 is the long-barrelled member of the family, catalogued by Taurus as 2-441069MAG. Five rounds, a 6.50-inch barrel, matte stainless steel throughout, and a cylinder cut to take 3-inch 410 magnum shells as well as 2-1/2 inch loads and 45 Colt.
Barrel length is the whole argument. Every other Judge is a compromise between what the 410 shell wants and what a concealable revolver allows, and the short ones give away a great deal of velocity and pattern quality. The Taurus Judge Magnum 6.5 stops compromising: it is a field gun, and the extra four inches of barrel show up in everything it does.
MAG5 Firearms has it in stock. Handguns ship to a licensed FFL on a signed 4473, and we coordinate the transfer with your dealer.
What the long barrel buys
- More velocity from a 45 Colt load, because the powder has somewhere to finish burning.
- Tighter 410 patterns, since the shot column spends less of its journey out of the muzzle spreading.
- A far longer sight radius, which is the single biggest factor in shooting a revolver accurately.
- Forward weight that settles the muzzle and makes the Taurus Judge Magnum 6.5 pleasant with full-power loads.
- Less muzzle blast and flash reaching the shooter, which matters more than most people expect.

Build, sights and action
- Matte stainless steel barrel, cylinder and frame, with no applied finish to wear through.
- Fiber optic front sight, which gathers ambient light and stands out against foliage or a dim barn.
- Ribbed black rubber grip that spreads recoil across the palm.
- Exposed hammer, so the Taurus Judge Magnum 6.5 can be cocked for a light single-action press on a deliberate shot.
- Transfer bar safety blocks the firing pin mechanically until the trigger is fully pressed.

Both chamberings are loaded to the dimensional and pressure standards published by SAAMI, so factory ammunition from any reputable maker is appropriate. A rifled barrel still spins the shot column, so even at this length a 410 pattern opens faster than it would from a smoothbore. What the extra barrel does buy is a usable pattern at a distance where the short Judges have none. We stock Sellier & Bellot 410 3-inch 00 buckshot and Remington Performance WheelGun 45 Colt.
For something you can carry, the 3-inch Judge Magnum takes the same shells in a shorter package, and the Judge Compact is the budget option. Browse our other revolvers too.
Why the long Judge earns its place
- The Taurus Judge Magnum 6.5 is the version of this revolver that actually delivers on the 410 chambering.
- A 6.50-inch sight radius turns it into a gun you can shoot deliberately rather than just point.
- Stainless throughout, which suits a revolver that lives in a truck, a boat or a tackle box.
- Five rounds of 45 Colt at close to the cartridge’s real potential.
- Taurus backs it with a limited lifetime repair policy that follows the firearm rather than the first owner.
This is a field and property gun rather than a carry gun. The Taurus Judge Magnum 6.5 suits a farm, a trapline, a boat or anywhere snakes and vermin are a working problem, and the 45 Colt side gives it real capability on larger animals at short range. Owners who found a short Judge disappointing with 410 usually find this one changes their mind.
