Description
The Taurus Judge Executive Grade is what you get when a factory pulls a standard production revolver off the line and hands it to somebody with a buffing wheel and the time to use it properly. The frame, cylinder and barrel are hand-polished to a satin stainless finish, the grips are checkered hardwood rather than moulded rubber, and the sideplate carries an Executive Grade medallion. Underneath all of that the Taurus Judge Executive Grade is still a Judge: five chambers, a 3-inch barrel, and a cylinder long enough to swallow either a .45 Colt cartridge or a .410 shotshell.
Part number 2-441EX039, UPC 725327938026, five in stock and shipping to your FFL.
What the Taurus Judge Executive Grade actually is
- Five-shot medium-frame revolver chambered for .45 Colt and 2-1/2 inch .410 shotshells
- 3-inch barrel, rifled – the rifling is what makes it a handgun rather than a short-barrelled shotgun in the eyes of the law
- Hand-polished satin stainless barrel, cylinder and frame, not a bead-blasted or tumbled finish
- Checkered hardwood grips with a Taurus medallion, in place of the standard Judge rubber grip
- Fibre-optic front sight and a fixed rear notch
- Double action / single action with a transfer-bar safety
- Executive Grade medallion inlaid in the sideplate

Shooting a .45 Colt and a .410 out of the same 3-inch barrel
- .45 Colt out of three inches is a big, slow, heavy bullet at modest velocity – it hits hard at across-the-room distances and drops off quickly after that
- .410 buckshot out of a rifled barrel spreads fast, because the rifling spins the shot column and throws it outward. Expect a pattern the width of a dinner plate at seven yards and much wider at fifteen
- That spread is a close-quarters proposition, not a hallway-length one. Anyone who tells you a Judge patterns like a shotgun has not put one on paper
- A .410 slug is an option, but the rifled barrel is cut for bullets, not slugs, and accuracy varies a lot between brands
- Recoil out of the Taurus Judge Executive Grade with full .45 Colt loads is noticeable but manageable – the gun weighs about 29 ounces and the hardwood grips fill the hand well

Read the barrel stamp before you buy shells
The barrel of this Taurus Judge Executive Grade is stamped THE JUDGE, not THE JUDGE MAGNUM. That matters. The plain Judge takes 2-1/2 inch .410 shells; the Magnum version takes 3 inch. Never load a 3-inch shell into a 2-1/2 inch chamber. The shell crimp needs somewhere to open, and if there is no room in front of it, chamber pressure goes up sharply. Buy 2-1/2 inch .410 for this revolver and nothing longer. If you want the longer chamber, look at the Judge Magnum in stainless or the 6.5-inch Judge Magnum instead.
Chamber and cartridge dimensions for both .45 Colt and .410 are published by SAAMI, and every reputable ammunition maker loads to them.
Where it sits in the Judge range
If the hand finishing is not what you are after, the Judge TORO gives you an optic cut instead, and the Public Defender shortens the whole package for carry. On the revolver side of the Executive Grade line, the 605 Executive Grade in .357 Magnum and the 692 Executive Grade convertible get the same hand-polishing treatment on smaller and larger frames respectively.
Why the Taurus Judge Executive Grade earns its place
- The finish is genuinely done by hand, and it looks it – the flats are flat and the radii are even
- Hardwood grips are a real upgrade over the rubber, both to look at and to hold
- One gun, two ammunition types, which is the whole point of the Judge and always has been
- Stainless throughout, so a nightstand gun in a humid house is not a maintenance problem
- Five in stock now, and Executive Grade runs are not made continuously
Be straight with yourself about what a hand-polished finish means in practice. A satin polish shows handling marks that a matte bead-blast would hide. Holster wear, a fingernail across the cylinder flute, a knock against a safe shelf – all of it shows. If this is going to live in a kydex holster and ride in a truck, buy a matte one and save the money. If it is going in a safe, a display case, or a soft-lined drawer and coming out for range days, the Taurus Judge Executive Grade is worth the difference.
The other honest point: the Judge has never been a precision instrument. It is a short, thick revolver with a cylinder built around a shotshell, and it shoots like one. What the Taurus Judge Executive Grade adds is not accuracy or ballistics – it is fit, finish and the feel of a gun somebody cared about. That is a legitimate reason to buy a firearm, and it is the reason to buy this one.
