Taurus Judge 6.5 Black 45 Colt/410 5rd — Superb Field Revolver

Description

The Taurus Judge 6.5 Black is the long-barrelled Judge in matte black oxide, cut for 2-1/2 inch shells and catalogued as 2-441061T. Five rounds of 45 Colt or 410, a 6.50-inch barrel, and black oxide over alloy steel across the barrel, cylinder and frame.

Barrel length is what makes this one worth having. Every short Judge is a compromise: the cylinder has to be long enough to swallow a shotshell, so the gun is never really compact, and the barrel is never long enough to make the most of either cartridge. The Taurus Judge 6.5 Black stops pretending it can be carried and takes the length instead.

MAG5 Firearms has it in stock. Handguns ship to a licensed FFL on a signed 4473, and we coordinate the transfer with your dealer.

What the length and the finish give you

• A 6.50-inch barrel gives a 45 Colt load room to burn its charge rather than throwing it out as flash.
• Tighter 410 patterns, since the shot spends less of its flight opening up.
• A far longer sight radius, which is the single biggest factor in placing a shot from a revolver.
• Matte black oxide gives no reflection at all, which suits a gun carried openly in the field.
• Forward weight settles the muzzle, so the Taurus Judge 6.5 Black is steady on a deliberate shot.

Build, sights and action

• Alloy steel barrel, cylinder and frame, all finished in matte black oxide with nothing bright anywhere.
• Fiber optic front sight, which stands out against foliage, dirt and the inside of a dim barn.
• Ribbed black rubber grip that spreads recoil across the palm.
• Exposed hammer, so the Taurus Judge 6.5 Black can be cocked for a deliberate single-action shot.
• Transfer bar safety blocks the firing pin mechanically until the trigger is fully pressed.

This cylinder is cut for 2-1/2 inch 410 shells, so 3-inch magnum loads do not belong in it. If you want the long barrel and the long chamber together, the Judge Magnum Black 6.5 is the one to buy. Both chamberings are produced to the dimensional and pressure standards published by SAAMI, so factory ammunition from any reputable maker is appropriate. We stock Remington Performance WheelGun 45 Colt and HSM Cowboy Action 45 Colt.

Why the long black Judge earns its place

• The Taurus Judge 6.5 Black is the configuration where the 410 side of the design finally makes sense.
• Matte black oxide is the most practical finish on a working gun and hides handling marks.
• A 6.50-inch sight radius makes it a revolver you can shoot deliberately rather than just point.
• Five rounds of 45 Colt at close to what the cartridge is capable of.
• Taurus backs it with a limited lifetime repair policy that follows the firearm rather than the original buyer.

This is a property gun rather than a carry gun. The Taurus Judge 6.5 Black belongs on a farm, a trapline or a boat, where snakes and vermin are a working nuisance and the 45 Colt side gives real capability on larger animals at short range. Owners who found a short Judge disappointing with 410 generally find the long barrel answers the complaint.
