Description
The Taurus GX4 Carry 9mm is the stretched version of Taurus’s micro-compact: 15+1 rounds, a 3.70-inch barrel, and a grip long enough for a full three-finger hold, in a pistol still narrow enough to carry inside the waistband.
The standard GX4 is a genuinely small gun that holds eleven. The Taurus GX4 Carry 9mm keeps the same width and the same controls, adds about half an inch of barrel and an inch of grip, and gets you to fifteen rounds — which for most people is the point where a micro stops feeling like a compromise.
What is different from the standard GX4
- The Taurus GX4 Carry 9mm holds fifteen rounds plus one, against eleven in the micro-compact GX4, from a magazine that still sits flush.
- A 3.70-inch barrel rather than 3.06 inches, which is worth real velocity from a 9mm defensive load.
- A full-length grip — no pinky hanging off the bottom of the magazine, which is the usual complaint about micro pistols.
- Interchangeable backstraps, so the reach to the trigger can be fitted to the hand.
- The same width. The Taurus GX4 Carry 9mm carries like the small gun it is derived from.

Finishes, and one thing to be clear about
- The barrel is satin black DLC — a diamond-like carbon coating that is hard, slick and highly corrosion resistant. It is the sort of finish that usually costs more than this whole pistol.
- The slide is gas-nitrided steel, serrated front and rear, which resists rust from the inside out rather than sitting on top as a coating.
- A Picatinny rail is moulded into the dust cover for a light.
- This particular model is not optic cut. If you want to mount a red dot, the GX4 Carry TORO is the version to buy — the slide top here is solid.
- Sights are fixed, plain and low-profile, which is what you want on a pistol that spends its life in a holster.

9mm Luger is standardised by SAAMI, so every load in the cabinet is built to the same dimensions and pressure ceiling — but barrel length still decides what you actually get out of them. A 3.70-inch barrel gives up noticeably less than a 3-inch one, and defensive loads designed to expand at short-barrel velocities work better here than the ones built around a full-size gun.
The rest of the GX4 family is in stock: the optic-ready GX4 Carry TORO, the micro-compact GX4 in OD Green, the GX4 in the Strike Industries chassis, and the tungsten micro. For a slightly larger gun at a lower price, look at the GX2 Compact.
Why the Taurus GX4 Carry 9mm earns its place
- The Taurus GX4 Carry 9mm puts fifteen rounds in a pistol that still conceals like a micro.
- A full grip, which is what makes a small 9mm shootable rather than merely carryable.
- DLC on the barrel and gas nitride on the slide, at a price where painted parts are the norm.
- Interchangeable backstraps, so it fits rather than nearly fits.
- Flush-fitting magazines, so nothing prints under a shirt.
This is a serious everyday carry pistol for someone who wants capacity without carrying a compact. It suits a first carry gun, and it suits an experienced carrier downsizing from a duty-size pistol who is not willing to drop to eleven rounds to do it. If a red dot is part of your plan, buy the TORO version instead — the Taurus GX4 Carry 9mm is the iron-sight model, and adding an optic to it is not a job for an aftermarket slide cut on a pistol at this price.
