Description
The Taurus 605 TORO is the optics-ready version of the small-frame 357, catalogued by Taurus as 2-605P31. Five rounds of 357 Magnum or 38 Special +P, a 3-inch barrel, matte black stainless steel throughout, an extended ejector rod, and a top strap machined at the factory to take a micro red dot.
A dot on a small revolver is a bigger upgrade than it sounds. Fixed sights on a three-inch gun give a short sight radius and a black notch that is hard to find in poor light. The Taurus 605 TORO replaces the whole problem with a single illuminated reference, and the cut is already done so there is no gunsmith involved.
MAG5 Firearms has it in stock. Handguns ship to a licensed FFL on a signed 4473, and we coordinate the transfer with your dealer.
What the optics-ready top strap gives you
- A factory-machined mounting surface with a cover plate fitted, so nothing needs drilling or tapping.
- An illuminated dot works far better than a black rear notch in the low light where a defensive gun is most likely to be used.
- The Taurus 605 TORO keeps its iron sights underneath as a backup if a battery or an emitter quits.
- Older eyes do markedly better with a dot on a plane than with a front and rear sight that cannot both be in focus.
- Nothing is added to the width of the gun, so holsters cut for the standard 605 still work in most cases.

The revolver underneath
- Matte black stainless barrel, cylinder and frame, with no gloss to catch the light.
- An extended ejector rod, which is a real improvement: it clears 357 cases fully on one stroke rather than leaving one hung up.
- A 3-inch barrel, which recovers some of the velocity a two-inch magnum throws away as muzzle flash.
- Black rubber grip that spreads recoil across the palm on a gun that needs the help.
- Transfer bar safety blocks the firing pin mechanically until the trigger is fully pressed.

Practise with 38 Special, carry whichever you shoot well. We stock CCI Blazer Brass 357 Magnum 158gr, the Barnes VOR-TX 357 Magnum and 38 Special practice ammunition.
Without the optic cut, the 605 with a 2-inch barrel costs less. For six rounds and a longer barrel, the Taurus Model 65 is the step up. Browse the rest of our revolvers too.
Why the 605 TORO earns its place
- The Taurus 605 TORO puts a factory optic mount on a carry-size magnum revolver, which very few makers offer at any price.
- An extended ejector rod is a small detail that solves a real annoyance with 357 brass.
- Two chamberings from one cylinder, and the cheaper one is the one you will shoot most.
- Three inches of barrel is the sensible compromise between velocity and carry.
- Taurus backs it with a limited lifetime repair policy that follows the firearm rather than the original buyer.
This suits a revolver shooter who wants to shoot better rather than differently. The Taurus 605 TORO is the obvious choice for anyone whose close vision has made iron sights harder work, and for shooters who already run a dot on a pistol and want the same sight picture on the wheelgun. Start with 38 Special while you learn the dot, then decide about magnum loads.
