Spandau Premier Target 12 Gauge 28in Over/Under Shotgun – Superb Color Case Clays Gun

Description

The Spandau Premier Target 12 Gauge 28in is an over/under clay gun imported by SDS Imports that pairs a color case hardened boxlock receiver with gloss blued barrels and a Turkish walnut stock. It is built around the features target shooters actually ask for: an adjustable comb, a selectable firing order, mechanical triggers and interchangeable choke tubes, at a price well below the Italian guns it is clearly modeled on.

Spandau Premier Target 12 Gauge 28in Overview

Spandau is the shotgun and rifle line that SDS Imports brings in from Turkey, and the Premier Target is its dedicated competition over/under. This listing is the 12 gauge model with 28 inch barrels and 3 inch chambers (manufacturer number 22000102). The 28 inch length is the most versatile choice in the line: long enough to swing smoothly on crossing targets, yet short enough to carry through a field or a dove line without feeling like a trap gun. SDS also offers 30 inch and youth versions if you want a different fit.

Receiver, Barrels and Finish

The boxlock receiver wears a color case hardened finish with the mottled blues, golds and browns that traditional double guns are known for. The stacked barrels are finished in gloss bluing and sit under a ventilated top rib with a fiber optic front bead and a brass mid bead to help you check your gun mount. Chambers accept both 2-3/4 and 3 inch shells, so the same gun can run light practice loads on Saturday and heavier field loads during the season.

Stock Fit and Adjustable Comb

Fit matters more than almost anything else on a target shotgun, and this is where the Premier Target separates itself from entry-level field guns. The Turkish walnut buttstock has an adjustable comb, which lets you raise or shift the cheek piece until your eye lines up straight down the rib. The forend is a full, rounded target style that gives your lead hand plenty of wood. Take the time to set the comb with a patterning board; a gun that shoots where you look is worth more than any upgrade.

Trigger, Safety and Firing Order

The Premier Target uses mechanical triggers, which means the second barrel is set by the mechanism rather than by the recoil of the first shot. That is a real advantage for light target loads, because an inertia trigger can occasionally fail to reset with soft 7/8 ounce shells. A tang mounted safety doubles as the barrel selector, so you can choose whether the over or under barrel fires first depending on the station or the bird.

Chokes and Target Use

The barrels are threaded for the common Benelli Mobil choke pattern rather than a proprietary Turkish thread. That matters, because extended and ported tubes in that pattern are easy to find from aftermarket makers, so you are not stuck with only the factory set. For sporting clays most shooters start with skeet and improved cylinder for close presentations, then swap tighter tubes in for long crossers or for trap. Always confirm a tube is marked for steel shot before running steel loads through it.

What to Know Before You Buy

This is an imported value-priced over/under, and you should buy it with honest expectations. Resale value will trail Beretta, Browning and Caesar Guerini, and dealer-level gunsmith support and spare parts are thinner than for the big brands. Distributor listings also disagree on weight and overall length for this model, with figures ranging from about 6.3 to 8.6 pounds, so handle one or confirm with the importer if a few ounces matter to you. Heavier guns are generally better for high-volume target work because they soak up recoil.

State Laws and Ownership

Over/under shotguns are legal to own in every state, but transport, storage and purchase rules still vary. Some states require a permit or firearms ID card to buy any long gun, and some cities limit where you may carry an uncased shotgun. Lead shot is banned for waterfowl nationwide and on some public hunting land, so check local rules before you take this gun afield. Your receiving FFL can confirm the transfer requirements in your state.

Before You Buy

Federal law requires that this shotgun ship to a licensed FFL dealer, where you will complete ATF Form 4473 and a background check before taking possession. You must be at least 18 years old to buy a long gun from a dealer. Some states add their own waiting periods, permits or registration, so check local rules before ordering. Always wear eye and ear protection on the range, and use only ammunition that matches the gauge and chamber length marked on the barrels.

Who It Is For

The Spandau Premier Target 12 Gauge 28in is a great fit for clay shooters who want an adjustable-comb over/under with mechanical triggers and common choke tubes, new competitors stepping up from a pump or semi-auto, and bird hunters who want one 28 inch gun for both the range and the field.
