Description

The Ruger RXM 9mm Threaded is the long-slide, threaded-muzzle version of Ruger’s chassis pistol, and the specification that sets it apart is easy to miss: the slide is cut to accept RMR, RMSc and DeltaPoint Pro optics. Most pistols commit you to one footprint. This one does not.

Underneath that it is the familiar RXM: a serialized fire control chassis in a polymer grip module, a 4.5-inch barrel threaded 1/2 x 28, two 17-round magazines and 23.2 ounces on the scale. The Ruger RXM 9mm Threaded is the configuration for people who intend to put a light, a dot and eventually a can on the same gun.

The multi-footprint optic cut

  • The slide of the Ruger RXM 9mm Threaded accepts RMR, RMSc and DeltaPoint Pro pattern optics, which between them cover the large majority of pistol dots on the market.
  • That means you can buy the sight you want rather than the sight your slide dictates, and change your mind later without milling.
  • Adjustable iron sights remain fitted underneath, so the pistol works with a dead battery.
  • A 4.5-inch barrel gives a longer sight radius than the standard RXM and a little more velocity with it.
  • The muzzle is threaded 1/2 x 28 from the factory and ships with a protector.

The chassis and what it means for you

  • The serialized component is the fire control chassis, not the grip module, so changing the frame is a parts purchase rather than another background check.
  • Two 17-round magazines ship in the box, and the pistol takes the Glock 19 magazine pattern, so spares are cheap and everywhere.
  • An accessory rail is molded into the frame for a light.
  • Black FNC nitride on the slide and barrel, which is a hard finish rather than a coating that flakes.
  • Twenty-three and a fifth ounces, which is a duty-weight pistol rather than a carry-weight one.

9mm Luger chamber and pressure limits are published by SAAMI, and the Ruger RXM 9mm Threaded is not fussy about factory ammunition. Federal American Eagle 115 gr FMJ is the practice default and Hornady Critical Defense 115 gr FTX the load to confirm in the gun if you intend to carry it.

Magazines are the quiet advantage of the Ruger RXM 9mm Threaded: it feeds from the Glock 19 pattern, so a Magpul PMAG 15-round GL9 drops straight in alongside the two 17-rounders in the box.

A note on the threaded muzzle: the thread pitch is listed because it is a specification of the pistol. MAG5 Firearms does not sell suppressors or other NFA items, and fitting one requires ATF approval and a tax stamp of your own.

If you want to change the feel of the Ruger RXM 9mm Threaded rather than replace it, Magpul makes the grip modules directly: a full-size module in black and a compact in gray, among others. Within the range, the Stealth Gray 15-round RXM is the standard-length option and the gray 4.5-inch 17-round is this pistol in the other color.

Compliance: our distributors will not direct-ship this model to Rhode Island or Washington, and it is not sold into California.

What the threaded muzzle on the Ruger RXM 9mm Threaded is for

A 1/2×28 muzzle takes compensators, brakes, thread protectors and fake suppressors, all of which are ordinary parts that ship like anything else. A protector comes fitted, so the pistol arrives looking like a standard gun until you decide otherwise.

The other reason people buy a threaded barrel is a suppressor, and that deserves a straight answer. A suppressor is an NFA item: it needs ATF approval, a tax stamp, and a transfer through a dealer who handles them. MAG5 does not sell or transfer NFA items, so settle that with a dealer who does before you buy anything for the front of a Ruger RXM 9mm Threaded.

One practical note on the long slide. Suppressor-height sights are not fitted, so a can will sit in the sight picture unless you change the irons or run a dot. That is worth planning for rather than discovering.

Magazines and grip modules for the Ruger RXM 9mm Threaded

The Glock 19 magazine pattern is the quiet advantage here. Two 17-round magazines ship in the box, and beyond those you are shopping in the deepest magazine market in handguns rather than a proprietary one. Glock 17 length magazines also run, and simply extend below the grip.

The grip module is the other half of the chassis idea. Because the serialized part is the fire control unit inside, a different frame is a parts purchase and not another transfer, which is exactly what makes the Ruger RXM 9mm Threaded worth buying over a fixed-frame pistol if you are not certain what fits your hand yet.

Where the Ruger RXM 9mm Threaded stops

At 23.2 ounces with a 4.5-inch slide, this is a duty and range pistol. It will conceal on a good belt under a jacket and it will not disappear under a shirt, and anyone buying it as a summer carry gun is buying the wrong RXM.

There is also no manual safety and no ambidextrous slide stop on this configuration. Neither is a fault, but both are worth knowing before the box is opened rather than after.

Why the Ruger RXM 9mm Threaded earns its place

  • An optic cut that takes three different footprints, which is genuinely rare at any price.
  • A threaded barrel from the factory rather than an aftermarket purchase.
  • A chassis design that lets you change grip modules without buying another gun.
  • Glock 19 magazine compatibility, so spares are neither scarce nor expensive.
  • Two 17-round magazines and adjustable sights included rather than extra.

Be clear about the size. At 23.2 ounces with a 4.5-inch threaded barrel, the Ruger RXM 9mm Threaded is a duty, range and home-defense pistol. It will conceal under a coat and not under a t-shirt, and if concealment is the priority there are better choices in the same catalogue.

Where it earns its money is as a pistol you will keep modifying for years: a dot of your choosing, a light on the rail, a different grip module when your hands tell you to, and a suppressor later if you go through the paperwork. Very little else at this price is built to be changed that many times.
