Description
The POF Phoenix 9mm Pistol Black is Patriot Ordnance Factory’s compact pistol-caliber subgun-style pistol, built on a monolithic aluminum upper with fully ambidextrous controls and fed from POF’s own 35-round magazines.

POF Phoenix 9mm Pistol Black Overview
POF-USA built the Phoenix from the ground up for 9mm rather than adapting an AR-15 lower with a magazine block. It runs on a direct blowback system and uses aerospace aluminum upper and lower receivers in a black anodized finish. The upper is monolithic, with a full-length Picatinny top rail and M-LOK slots for lights and grips. 5-inch barrel with a 1-in-10-inch twist threaded 1/2×28 and fitted with a two-port muzzle brake, plus a rear 1913 rail with a QD sling cup in place of a buffer tube. 5 inches.
Ambidextrous Controls
Safety, magazine release and bolt controls are mirrored on both sides, so left-handed shooters do not have to compromise. A non-reciprocating forward charging handle can be run with either hand without breaking your firing grip on the pistol. The trigger is an AR-15 mil-spec style unit, and the grip is a Mission First Tactical design. Because it uses AR-pattern fire control parts, upgrade triggers are easy to find.
Magazines
The Phoenix ships with one 35-round magazine and uses POF’s own Phoenix magazine pattern, not Glock or Colt-style magazines. Spare magazines are available in 10, 20 and 35-round sizes. Check your state’s capacity law before buying, since many states cap magazines at 10 or 15 rounds. Budget for at least two spares if you plan to take a carbine class.
Blowback Realities
Direct blowback designs are simple and reliable, but they recoil differently from a rifle-caliber AR, with a heavier bolt moving back and forth. The two-port brake helps keep the muzzle flat during fast strings. Blowback guns also send more gas and carbon toward the shooter than locked-breech designs, especially when suppressed, so expect to clean the bolt and chamber more often. Use quality brass-cased 115 to 147 grain ammunition for best function.
Brace and Stock Rules
The rear 1913 rail can accept a pistol stabilizing brace. The ATF brace rule of 2023 was vacated by a federal court in 2024, so braces are again treated as accessories under federal rules, but rules can change and some states regulate them. Attaching a true shoulder stock to this pistol would create a short-barreled rifle, an NFA item that requires an approved ATF Form 1 before you make it.
Suppressor Host
The 1/2×28 threads make the Phoenix a natural suppressor host, and 9mm subsonic ammunition is very quiet through a good can. Any suppressor requires an approved ATF Form 4 and must be legal in your state. Remove the brake carefully and use the correct crush washer or shims when changing devices so the timing and alignment stay correct.
State Laws and Ownership
AR-style pistols with threaded barrels and detachable magazines are restricted or banned as assault weapons in several states, including California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Illinois and Washington. Many states also limit magazine capacity to 10 or 15 rounds, and the included 35-round magazine is not legal to possess in those states. Some cities have additional rules. Confirm with your receiving dealer that this pistol is legal for you before ordering.
