The POF Phoenix 9mm Rifle FDE is the full-length carbine version of Patriot Ordnance Factory’s purpose-built 9mm platform, finished in flat dark earth with a collapsible stock and a carbine-length barrel.
POF Phoenix 9mm Rifle FDE Overview
Rather than adapting an AR-15 to 9mm, POF-USA designed the Phoenix around the pistol cartridge from the start. 5) with a 1-in-10-inch twist, threaded 1/2×28 and fitted with a dual-chamber muzzle brake. 5-inch M-LOK rail and a continuous top Picatinny rail for optics. A Mission First Tactical collapsible stock adjusts length of pull, and the controls are fully ambidextrous. 3 pounds, light enough for younger and smaller shooters to handle comfortably.
A True Carbine
With a barrel over 16 inches and a shoulder stock, the Phoenix Rifle is a standard rifle under federal rules, so there is no NFA paperwork and no brace questions. The longer barrel adds velocity to 9mm loads, and the long sight radius and stable cheek weld make it easy to shoot well. For home defense, 9mm out of a carbine offers low recoil and less blast indoors than a rifle cartridge.
Flat Dark Earth Finish
The FDE finish covers the receivers and rail, giving a sand-colored look that pairs well with earth-tone accessories. Applied finishes can wear at contact points with heavy use, so expect some honest holster-style wear over the years. Cleaning solvents are safe on the finish when used normally; avoid harsh abrasives.
Magazines and Controls
The Phoenix ships with one 35-round magazine and uses POF’s own Phoenix magazine pattern, not Glock or Colt-pattern magazines. Spares are available in 10, 20 and 35-round sizes. The safety, magazine release and bolt controls work from either side, and the non-reciprocating forward charging handle can be run with the support hand while you keep the rifle shouldered.
Blowback Operation
The Phoenix uses a direct blowback system, which is simple and reliable but cycles a heavier bolt than a gas-operated rifle. The dual-chamber brake keeps the muzzle down during fast strings. Blowback designs run dirtier, especially suppressed, so clean the bolt face and chamber regularly. Use quality brass-cased 9mm ammunition, and test defensive hollow points for reliable feeding before relying on them.
Optics and Accessories
The continuous top rail accepts red dots, low-power variable optics and backup iron sights, and the M-LOK slots take lights, slings and grips. The 1/2×28 threads let you swap the brake for a flash hider or suppressor mount. A suppressor requires an approved ATF Form 4 and must be legal in your state.
State Laws and Ownership
Semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines, a collapsible stock and a threaded barrel are restricted or banned as assault weapons in several states, including California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Illinois, Washington and Delaware. Many states also cap magazine capacity at 10 or 15 rounds, and the included 35-round magazine is not legal to possess there.
