Description
The CMMG Dissent 9mm Pistol Midnight Bronze is a 10.5-inch, bufferless 9mm AR-style pistol built on CMMG’s RDB operating system. It wears Midnight Bronze Cerakote, uses a left-side forward charging handle, and ends in a Picatinny rail at the rear instead of a buffer tube.

CMMG Dissent 9mm Pistol Midnight Bronze Overview
Most 9mm AR pistols are straight blowback designs with heavy buffers and a sharp recoil impulse. CMMG’s Radial Delayed Blowback system uses a rotating bolt with angled locking lugs that slow the unlocking of the action, which reduces felt recoil and lets the bolt be lighter. The Dissent version also moves the recoil system into the upper receiver, so there is no buffer tube. That allows a compact package and a rear 1913 Picatinny rail end cap where many owners mount an approved pistol brace. 5 inch version.
The RDB Action in Practice
In use the RDB action feels smoother than typical blowback 9mm carbines, and the gun tolerates a range of bullet weights. A ZEROED RBB brake on the 1/2×28 threaded muzzle further cuts muzzle rise, though it adds noise and flash. The 1:10 twist barrel is 4140 chrome moly with a salt bath nitride finish. Expect it to run well on quality 115 to 147 grain ammunition after a short break-in.

Controls and Layout
Lower controls follow the AR-15 pattern, including a ZEROED 60/90 degree safety selector and a ZEROED drop-in single-stage trigger on a forged 7075 lower. The Dissent side charger sits forward on the left and does not reciprocate, so you can charge the gun with your support hand without breaking your firing grip. The upper is 7075 T6 aluminum in Midnight Bronze Cerakote.
Pistol Rules and Accessories
This is sold as a pistol with no stock or brace installed. Adding a shoulder stock to a pistol with a barrel under 16 inches creates a short-barreled rifle, which is an NFA item requiring prior ATF approval. Arm brace rules have changed repeatedly, so check current federal guidance and your state law before adding one. A vertical foregrip on a pistol can also create an NFA issue; angled grips and hand stops are the common workaround.

Magazines
CMMG lists two 30-round CMMG magazines with this model, while some distributor listings describe 33-round capacity and a single magazine. Confirm what is in the box at transfer. Thirty-round magazines are not legal in states with 10 or 15 round limits, and spare CMMG-pattern 9mm magazines cost more than common pistol magazines.
Ownership and Value
Midnight Bronze Cerakote is durable and easy to clean, and CMMG backs the gun with a lifetime quality guarantee. The Dissent is more expensive than many 9mm AR pistols, but its recoil system and folding-friendly bufferless design are real advantages. Resale demand for CMMG products is generally good, especially in the less common finishes.
State Laws and Ownership
AR-style pistols are restricted or banned in states including California, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Washington, Illinois and Colorado, and some also cap magazine capacity or regulate threaded barrels. Local laws may add more limits. Confirm legality and transferability with your dealer before ordering.
