Description

The Panzer Arms ARP9 Coyote Tan is a lesson in what the large format pistol actually buys you. It is 14.76 inches long and weighs 4.96 pounds, which means it shoots like a small rifle and stores like a big handgun. Nothing about a 9mm needs a 16 inch barrel, and this is what happens when a design admits that.

The finish is the other half of the argument. Coyote Tan on 7075 hardened aluminum, with a black barrel, black polymer grip and black sights, is a combination that reads as deliberate rather than as whatever the factory had in the tank that week.

Underneath the color it is a straight blowback 9mm with an AR type fire control group and a double stack Glock pattern magazine well. The Panzer Arms ARP9 Coyote Tan arrives with a 15 round magazine, a 33 round magazine, a sling and a muzzle brake, and we are holding two hundred of them.

Panzer Arms ARP9 Coyote Tan at a glance

  • Semi-automatic, straight blowback 9mm Luger large format pistol, 33+1 capacity.
  • 7075 hardened aluminum upper and lower finished in Coyote Tan, with a matching M-LOK handguard.
  • 6.5 inch 4140 carbon alloy steel barrel, black finish, 1:10 twist, threaded 1/2×28 with a tri-lug shoulder.
  • Double stack Glock pattern magazine well, so spare magazines cost what Glock magazines cost.
  • Adjustable flip up front and rear sights on a full length Picatinny top rail.
  • Fully ambidextrous controls and a rear M1913 Picatinny interface for a folding brace.
  • AR type fire control group, so most aftermarket AR triggers drop straight in.

Why the format works

  • A 9mm cartridge gives up very little velocity between a 6.5 inch barrel and a 16 inch one, so the short barrel costs you almost nothing in performance while saving nine inches of length.
  • Five pounds of aluminum and steel absorbs 9mm recoil so completely that follow up shots are limited by how fast you can see, not by how fast the gun settles.
  • The sight radius on the Panzer Arms ARP9 Coyote Tan is roughly three times what you get on a service pistol, and a red dot on the top rail extends that advantage further.
  • Folded down with a brace, the whole package fits in a bag that does not look like a gun case, which is the practical reason this format exists.
  • Blowback operation means there is no gas system to foul, no port to erode and no adjustment to get wrong. It is the simplest reliable action there is.

Feeding the Panzer Arms ARP9 Coyote Tan

Standard 115 grain full metal jacket is the design load and the sensible break in diet. Our Federal American Eagle 9mm 115 grain FMJ is brass cased, clean burning and boringly consistent, which is exactly what you want while a new blowback action wears its parts in.

Because a blowback gun is timed by bolt mass rather than by gas, very light or very weak loads are the ones that cause trouble, not hot ones. If a subsonic or a heavily downloaded practice round short strokes, that is the load, not the gun. Stick to full power factory ammunition and the Panzer Arms ARP9 Coyote Tan is undemanding.

For spares, the Magpul PMAG 15 GL9 is the compact option and sits nearly flush, while a 17 or 33 round stick gives you more rounds and a better grip surface if you are shooting off the magazine. Any double stack Glock pattern magazine you already own is a candidate.

If you prefer the same gun in a darker finish, the Panzer Arms ARP9 in Tactical Gray is the identical firearm with a gray receiver set, and it is in stock in the same depth.

Braces, stocks and the legal line

The Panzer Arms ARP9 Coyote Tan is a pistol, and no brace ships with it. The rear M1913 Picatinny interface is there so you can fit a folding brace, which is a legal accessory on a pistol. A shoulder stock is a different matter: putting one on a firearm with a 6.5 inch barrel creates a short barreled rifle, and that requires ATF approval and a transfer through a dealer who handles NFA items. MAG5 does not sell or transfer NFA items, so settle that question with a dealer who does before you buy any rear attachment.

The muzzle threads are 1/2×28 with a tri-lug shoulder, which covers most 9mm muzzle devices. The same caveat applies at that end of the gun: suppressors are NFA items, we do not sell them, and the thread pitch on the Panzer Arms ARP9 Coyote Tan is simply a fact about the barrel rather than an invitation.

Who the Panzer Arms ARP9 Coyote Tan suits

  • Shooters who want rifle ergonomics and pistol running costs in the same gun.
  • Anyone with a collection of Glock magazines already sitting in a drawer.
  • Buyers who want a compact, baggable firearm rather than a full length carbine.
  • New shooters, because five pounds of gun under a 9mm cartridge is about as gentle as centerfire gets.
  • Anyone who wants a finish that is not black, and who would rather have Coyote Tan than gray.

The summary on the Panzer Arms ARP9 Coyote Tan is that it is a sensible gun wearing a good color. Aluminum receivers, a blowback bolt, an AR trigger pack and a Glock magazine well add up to a firearm that is cheap to feed, easy to accessorize and simple to keep running, and the tan finish costs nothing extra.

Specifications come from the distributor record and from Panzer Arms USA’s own product page. If something on this listing does not match the gun in the box, tell us and we will correct it.
