Description
The North American Arms Sheriff 22 Combo is the middle child of the 1860 line: a 2.5-inch octagonal-barrel mini revolver that ships with two cylinders, one for .22 Magnum and one for .22 Long Rifle. It keeps the Old West styling of the Earl in a shorter, more pocketable package.

North American Arms Sheriff 22 Combo Overview
Sold by NAA as the 1860-250C, the Sheriff measures 6.31 inches long and weighs just 7.7 ounces. The barrel is octagonal, the cylinder holds five rounds, and the stainless post front sight sits on a barrel short enough for a jacket pocket. Unlike the Earl, the Sheriff uses a push-button cylinder latch pin instead of a faux loading lever, which makes swapping cylinders quicker. The rosewood boot grip gives it a warm, traditional look, and every part is stainless steel.
Two Cylinders, Two Cartridges
The extra conversion cylinder is the reason to buy this version. Practice with inexpensive .22 Long Rifle, then swap in the magnum cylinder when you want more energy for pests on the trail. The cylinders are not interchangeable in the sense of mixing ammunition: never load .22 WMR into the Long Rifle cylinder, and never use .22 LR in the magnum chambers, where the case can split. Keep the spare cylinder in its own pouch so it is easy to identify.

Handling the Sheriff
A 2.5-inch barrel splits the difference between the snub-nosed minis and the 4-inch Earl. It points naturally, the muzzle blast is more manageable than a one-inch gun, and the overall size still disappears into a coat pocket. The boot grip is small, so plan on a pinky hanging below it unless you add an oversized grip from NAA.
Single Action Manual of Arms
Like every NAA mini revolver, it is single action only: you cock the hammer for each shot and the spur trigger drops into place. For carry, NAA provides safety notches between the chambers so the hammer can rest between cartridges rather than on a live rim. Learn the half-cock and rest-notch procedure from the manual before you carry it. Reloading means removing the cylinder, punching out the empties and refilling it, so this is not a gun for fast follow-up strings.

Practical Uses
The Sheriff is best thought of as a trail, camp and fun gun. It shines for ringing steel at short range, dispatching snakes, or keeping in a tackle box. As a concealed-carry tool it has real drawbacks: limited capacity, slow reloads and a small grip. Rimfire cartridges are inherently less reliable than centerfire rounds, so an occasional dud is normal; in a revolver you simply cock the hammer again to bring a fresh chamber under it.
Cleaning and Upkeep
Switching between .22 LR and .22 WMR leaves fouling rings in different places, so brush the chambers of both cylinders after a session. A drop of light oil on the cylinder pin keeps rotation smooth. Stainless steel resists moisture well, but wipe it down after it has been carried in a pocket for a while.
State Laws and Ownership
Mini revolvers are legal in most states, but a few jurisdictions add their own hurdles. California and Massachusetts only allow sales of models on their approved handgun rosters, and several states require a purchase permit or firearm ID card first. Pennsylvania buyers complete a PICS check at the receiving dealer. Carry rules also differ widely, so confirm your state and local laws, including permit reciprocity, before you carry it.
