The North American Arms Mini-Master Target (model NAA-MMT-M) is the most precise way to shoot an NAA mini revolver. It pairs a 4 inch heavy vent barrel with a Marble Arms rear sight that adjusts for elevation, a bull cylinder and an oversized rubber grip, all in stainless steel and chambered for 22 Magnum.
North American Arms Mini-Master Target Overview
This is the Magnum-only version, supplied with a single 22 WMR cylinder. It is 7.88 inches long and weighs 10.8 ounces. The combination of barrel length, adjustable sight and full grip makes it the NAA most suited to informal target shooting, pest control around the property and small game where legal, while staying light enough to ride in a pack all day.
Setting Elevation
Pick the 22 WMR load you will use most, shoot a five-round group from a rest at 15 yards and adjust the rear sight until the group sits where you want it. Write down the setting. Different bullet weights can shift point of impact, so recheck if you change ammunition.
The Benefits of a Longer Barrel
Four inches of barrel helps 22 Magnum recover some of the velocity it loses in shorter handguns and reduces flash. It also stretches the distance between front and rear sights, which makes aiming errors smaller. For most shooters the Mini-Master Target groups far better at 15 to 25 yards than any short-barrel NAA.
Using It for Pests and Small Game
With good shot placement, 22 WMR is effective on small pests and small game at sensible ranges. Check your state hunting regulations, since some states limit handguns or rimfire cartridges for certain species. Know what is behind your target, because a 22 Magnum bullet can travel well over a mile.
Handling a Single Action Mini
Cock the hammer with your thumb for each shot and press the spur trigger. There is no trigger guard, so keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire. When carrying loaded, lower the hammer into one of the notches between chambers. The oversized grip makes all of this easier than on NAA’s smallest models.
Adding a 22 LR Cylinder
The MMT-M ships without a 22 LR cylinder. If you want cheaper practice ammunition, NAA sells the same revolver as a convertible combo, or you can ask the factory about fitting a conversion cylinder. Remember that 22 Magnum costs more per round and is sometimes hard to find, so stock up when you see your load.
