The North American Arms Mini-Master 22 Mag is the long-barreled member of the NAA family: a five-shot 22 Magnum single action with a 4 inch heavy vent barrel, a bull cylinder and an oversized rubber grip. Built of stainless steel in Provo, Utah, it turns the pocket mini into a small kit gun that shoots far better than its size suggests.
North American Arms Mini-Master 22 Mag Overview
This is model NAA-MM-M, the fixed-sight version. It measures 7.88 inches long, 3.69 inches tall and about an inch wide, and weighs 10.8 ounces. The heavy barrel carries a ventilated rib and fixed Marble Arms sights, giving a much longer sight radius than the 1-5/8 inch minis. A 22 LR-only version (NAA-MM-L) and a convertible model with both cylinders (NAA-MM-C) are sold separately; this one is chambered for 22 WMR only.
A Mini With a Real Sight Radius
The biggest difference from the pocket minis is how it shoots. The 4 inch barrel and taller sights let most shooters keep hits on a paper plate at 15 yards and beyond, and the extra barrel length adds noticeable velocity to 22 Magnum loads. That makes it a fun plinker and a capable small-game or tackle-box gun.
Grip and Handling
The oversized rubber grip gives a full three-finger hold, which most of the small NAA revolvers cannot. Recoil is mild, but the report from a 22 Magnum in a short revolver is sharp, so wear hearing protection. Like every NAA, it is a single action with a spur trigger, so you cock the hammer for each shot.
Loading and Safe Carry
Every NAA mini loads the same way: press the base pin latch, pull the cylinder pin, drop the cylinder out, load or punch out the five rounds and reassemble. After loading, lower the hammer into one of the notches cut between the chambers so it never rests on a live rim. Practice this with an empty gun until it is automatic. The bull cylinder is the same five-shot design as the smaller magnum minis.
Holsters and Carry
At almost 8 inches long, the Mini-Master is not a pocket gun. NAA and several leather makers offer belt holsters cut for it, and it rides well in a pack or tackle box. Check holster fit by model number, because the 4 inch barrel and rib will not fit the cut-down pocket holsters made for the 1-5/8 inch guns.
Ammunition Notes
Use only 22 WMR in this cylinder. Rimfire magnum ammunition costs more than 22 LR and supply comes and goes, so buy a few boxes of a load that runs well. Bullet weights from 30 to 45 grains all work; heavier bullets often group better from the longer barrel.
State Laws and Ownership
Mini-revolvers are legal to own in most of the country, but several states limit which handguns a dealer may transfer. California, Massachusetts, Maryland and New York keep rosters or approval lists, and some cities require a purchase permit first. Concealed carry rules differ widely, and a permit is required in many states even for a revolver this small, so check your local law before you order.
