Description
The North American Arms Black Widow Matte (NAA-BWM-CRK) is the 22 Magnum Black Widow finished in black Cerakote over steel. It keeps the 2 inch heavy vent barrel, bull cylinder, fixed sights and oversized rubber grip of the stainless model, but in an all-black look with no bright metal.

North American Arms Black Widow Matte Overview
NAA says its Black Widow evolved from the 22 Magnum mini frame, adding a heavy vent barrel, a bull cylinder, oversized black rubber grips with the Black Widow logo and Marble Arms sights. NAA lists this model at 5.88 inches long, 3.69 inches tall, 1 inch wide and 8.9 ounces, with Marble Arms sights; Lipsey’s lists 8.8 ounces, 5.8 inches and fixed sights. Our store title calls it matte black; the maker and distributors describe the finish as black Cerakote, a ceramic-based coating that is applied and baked over the steel.
What Cerakote Brings
Cerakote is harder and more abrasion resistant than paint, and it adds a layer of corrosion protection on top of the steel. It gives the Black Widow a uniform, low-glare finish that does not reflect light the way polished or brushed stainless does. Like any coating, it can wear at sharp edges with heavy holster use, so a holster with a smooth lining helps keep it looking new.

22 Magnum With Room to Shoot
The 2 inch barrel gives the 22 WMR more velocity than the 1-1/8 or 1-5/8 inch minis, and the extra weight and full grip keep the gun steady. Recoil is mild for a revolver this light, but the report is loud and the muzzle flash bright. Hearing protection is a must, and short-barrel handgun loads tend to perform best.
Sights and Accuracy
The Marble Arms low-profile fixed sights are a real step up from the half-moon front blade on standard minis. With the longer sight radius, most shooters can keep hits on a small target at 10 yards or more with practice. Because the sights are fixed, try a few loads to find one that lands close to where you aim.

Carrying the Black Widow
The cylinder has half notches between chambers. After loading, lower the hammer into one so it rests between cartridges. The spur trigger has no guard, so carry it only in a holster that covers the trigger area completely. NAA and several holster makers cut patterns specifically for the Black Widow frame.
Black or Stainless?
Functionally, this model matches the stainless NAA-BWM. The choice is about appearance and finish care. Stainless shrugs off scratches that can be polished out, while Cerakote resists rust and glare but cannot be touched up as easily. If you want a darker, more tactical look, the black version is the one to buy.
State Laws and Ownership
Mini-revolvers are legal to own in most states, but several states limit which handguns a dealer may sell. California, Massachusetts and Maryland keep handgun rosters, and New York, New Jersey and Illinois require permits or ID cards before a purchase. Check that this exact model can be transferred where you live before ordering. Carry permits are still required in many states, even for a five-shot rimfire this small.
