Military Armament Corp MAC 5K 9mm Pistol 5.8 in. 30+1 – Proven Roller-Delayed MP5K Platform

$1,279.99

Military Armament Corporation builds the MAC 5K to original HK specifications, with a genuine roller-delayed bolt group rather than the straight blowback most compact nine-millimeter handguns use. A 5.8 in. button-rifled barrel, machined tri-lug mount, two 30-round magazines and a hard case come in the box.

Description

The MAC 5K 9mm pistol is Military Armament Corporation short-barreled take on the pattern that made the MP5K famous, and it is one of very few guns in its bracket that copies the original operating system instead of approximating it. At 13.7 in. overall and 4.6 lb., it is small enough to live in a discreet bag and heavy enough to sit still when it goes off.

Most compact carbine-style handguns at this level run straight blowback: a heavy bolt held shut by nothing but its own mass and a spring. The MAC 5K 9mm pistol instead uses a two-piece bolt whose rollers cam outward into recesses in the barrel trunnion, exactly as Heckler and Koch drew it. Those rollers must be squeezed back out of their recesses before the bolt can travel, and that brief mechanical argument lets chamber pressure fall before anything unlocks.

The result you feel is a softer, flatter push rather than one hard slap, gentler case ejection, and a gun that stays where you pointed it between shots. Military Armament Corp built this MAC 5K 9mm pistol to original HK dimensions, so MP5K and SP5K components drop straight in: handguards, trigger packs, sights, mounts and magazines.

What roller-delayed blowback actually does for you

  • Recoil arrives spread out over a longer moment instead of all at once, so follow-up shots land closer together.
  • The fluted chamber floats the case on a thin cushion of gas during extraction, which keeps brass from gripping the walls and tearing.
  • Bolt velocity stays low, which is part of why the MAC 5K 9mm pistol is quieter mechanically and far easier on its own components.
  • Standard MP5K and SP5K parts fit, so you inherit five decades of aftermarket instead of proprietary bits nobody stocks.
  • A roller-delayed blowback pistol tolerates a wider spread of bullet weights than a mass-driven one, because the timing is set by geometry rather than by momentum alone.

Built to HK spec, and it shows

  • 5.8 in. button-rifled barrel wearing a machined tri-lug mount and 1/2×28 threads behind the supplied flash hider.
  • Fluted chamber for clean extraction under working pressure.
  • SEF-pattern trigger group breaking at roughly 4.25 lb.
  • Paddle release under the trigger guard plus a conventional button, so magazine changes work from either hand.
  • Reinforced glass-filled polymer grip module in the shape shooters have trained on for fifty years.
  • Hooded front post adjustable for elevation, with a rotary drum rear offering a notch and three apertures.
  • Receiver machined for an HK-pattern claw mount, making it an MP5K parts compatible pistol in the places that matter most, optics included.

Two things the spec sheets get wrong

Sports South lists this receiver as optics ready, which is true in the narrow sense that the claw-mount lugs are machined into it at the factory. It is not true in the sense most buyers assume. The MAC 5K 9mm pistol leaves the factory with no rail in the box and no optic mount of any kind, and Zanders states it plainly: HK claw mount compatible, not included. Budget for the mount before you budget for the red dot.

The rear sight gets described two ways as well. Zanders calls it a castle-style adjustable rear; other sheets call it a rotary diopter drum. It is the same part, the four-position drum HK has fitted since the 1960s, carrying one notch and three apertures. Nothing is missing, the paperwork simply uses different names for it.

On the finish, for once the two records agree. Zanders specifies lacquer paint over manganese phosphate and Sports South shortens that to black phosphate. Both describe one treatment, a phosphate base under a painted top coat, and it is the right answer for a gun carrying this much exposed steel.

Suppressors, stocks and the law

Those threads on the MAC 5K 9mm pistol exist for a reason, and we would rather be direct about it than coy. Suppressors are National Firearms Act items. They require an approved ATF Form 4, a tax stamp and a wait measured in months. MAG5 Firearms does not stock them, and nothing here should be read as an offer to sell you one.

The same care applies at the back of the gun. The MAC 5K 9mm pistol ships as a handgun with a bare rear trunnion: no stock, no brace, 13.7 in. from muzzle to end cap. Fitting a shoulder stock turns it into a short-barreled rifle, which is also an NFA item and also needs ATF approval before the part goes on. Brace rules have shifted more than once in recent years, so check where they stand today rather than where they stood when you last looked.

Capacity deserves a glance too. Two 30-round magazines come in the case, and several states cap magazines below that number. Confirm your own rules before you order.

Why the Military Armament Corp MAC 5K earns its place

  • It is a faithful copy of a proven operating system rather than a lookalike built on a cheaper action.
  • The parts supply is enormous, because it eats components designed for guns that have been in service since 1966.
  • A MAC 5K 9mm pistol arrives complete, with case, sling, cleaning kit and two magazines, instead of as a bare gun plus a shopping list.
  • Military Armament Corp MAC 5K buyers get a one-year warranty backed by a lifetime service plan, which is uncommon at this level.
  • Low bolt velocity and a short, dense package make it genuinely pleasant to shoot, and pleasant guns are the ones that get used.

If you already own the MAC 5 with the 8.9 in. barrel, this is the same action in a shape you can actually carry. Choosing between them comes down to what you want: the longer gun gives you sight radius and a touch more velocity, while the MAC 5K 9mm pistol gives you a handier package and the tri-lug mount up front.

The MAC IX looks similar and costs less, and the gap between them is the entire point of this page. The IX runs direct blowback. This one is roller-delayed. If the action matters to you, buy this. If it does not, keep the difference.

Feed it from the factory 30-round steel magazine or the cheaper KCI MP5 magazine, and run Federal 130gr Syntech PCC through it, which is loaded for pistol-caliber carbines and burns clean out of a short tube. A completely different answer to the same question is the Ruger PC Charger, which takes Glock magazines and breaks down into a backpack.
