Description
The MAC IX 9mm pistol is Military Armament Corp’s take on the most recognizable submachine gun silhouette ever built, made as a semi-automatic pistol an American buyer can actually own. Six and a half inches of threaded barrel, an M-LOK handguard, a full-length Picatinny rail across the top, a paddle magazine release, an ambidextrous safety and thirty rounds of 9mm in a magazine pattern that has been in continuous production since the 1960s.
Military Armament Corp part number 12755001. Two 30-round magazines come in the box, along with a sling, a cleaning kit and a case, which is a more complete package than most guns at any price arrive with. At roughly five pounds the MAC IX 9mm pistol is heavy for a handgun and light for a carbine, which is exactly where a gun of this shape wants to sit.
What the MAC IX 9mm pistol gives you
- 9mm Luger, 30+1, direct blowback semi-automatic action
- 6.5 inch barrel threaded 1/2×28
- Accepts MP5 pattern magazines
- Paddle magazine release behind the magazine well
- Ambidextrous safety
- M-LOK handguard for lights, grips and sling mounts
- Full-length Picatinny rail for optics, plus a rear section
- Fixed sights fitted from the factory
- Two 30-round magazines, a sling, a cleaning kit and a case included
- Approximately 5 pounds

Why an MP5 pattern 9mm pistol still makes sense today
- A 6.5 inch barrel gets more from 9mm than any handgun barrel does
- Five pounds of gun absorbs recoil that a 30 ounce pistol transmits to your wrist
- A full-length top rail means a red dot and a magnifier can both live on it
- Magazines are cheap, common and proven
- Two magazines, a sling, a cleaning kit and a case arrive with the gun

Direct blowback, not roller delayed
This matters and most listings skip it. The original HK design this shape comes from uses a roller-delayed bolt. The MAC IX 9mm pistol uses straight direct blowback, which is a simpler, cheaper and more robust mechanism with fewer parts to time and nothing to wear out of spec. The trade is a heavier bolt and a slightly firmer impulse. On a five pound gun firing 9mm, that impulse is still mild.
What you gain is a gun that will keep running on whatever 9mm you feed it, and one that costs a fraction of the roller-delayed guns it resembles. Anyone buying a MAC IX 9mm pistol expecting an HK clone at an HK price point should understand which mechanism they are getting, and why it is the right one at this price.
Magazines: it takes MP5 pattern
Two 30-round magazines come in the box, and the MAC IX 9mm pistol accepts MP5 pattern magazines, which is the single best thing about owning one. That is a magazine standard with decades of production behind it and no shortage. We stock KCI 30-round MP5 magazines deep, plus MAC 5 and 5K 30-round metal magazines and Zenith ZF-5 series magazines. The paddle release sits behind the magazine well in the HK manner, so you strip a magazine with your support hand rather than a thumb button.
Ammunition for a 30 round 9mm blowback pistol
The MAC IX 9mm pistol is not fussy about ammunition, but a heavier bullet gives a smoother impulse. Federal 130 grain Syntech PCC was designed specifically for pistol caliber carbines, uses a polymer jacket that reduces lead and copper fouling, and we hold it in serious depth. Standard 115 and 124 grain ball will run fine for plinking.
Threads, rails and one legal line
The MAC IX 9mm pistol is threaded 1/2×28 at the muzzle, the standard 9mm pitch, so a brake or compensator fits directly. A suppressor is an NFA item requiring ATF approval and a tax stamp, and MAG5 does not stock NFA items.
This is legally a pistol. There is a rear Picatinny section for a brace, and the rules governing braces have shifted more than once in recent years. Fitting an actual shoulder stock creates a short barreled rifle under federal law, which requires ATF approval before the parts go together. Ask us and ask counsel before you buy anything that attaches at the rear.
Cross-shopping the Military Armament Corp MAC IX
The Ruger PC Charger has the same 6.5 inch barrel as the MAC IX 9mm pistol and takes Glock magazines instead of MP5, which may suit you better if you already own a Glock. The Kel-Tec SUB-2000 Defender folds in half and is a fifth of the weight, but it is a very different gun to shoot. The Smith and Wesson FPC folds too, in 10mm.
Worth knowing before you buy
- 9mm Luger is a SAAMI standardized cartridge, so factory ammunition is consistent across brands. See the SAAMI published standards.
- Distributor records disagree on the finish and frame material, one saying Cerakote over steel and the other black anodized. We are not quoting either. Ask and we will open a box.
- A five pound pistol needs a plan for how you will carry and store it. This is not a belt gun.
- This model cannot be sold under the Illinois PICA and cannot be direct shipped to Rhode Island.
Buy the MAC IX 9mm pistol if you want the handling of a pistol caliber carbine without the cost of a roller-delayed clone, and you want to feed it from the cheapest and most available 30-round magazine standard in existence. It is a range gun first, a home gun second, and an unusually complete package out of the box.
