Description
The MAC 5 9mm Pistol is a roller-delayed 9mm built on the pattern that defined the submachine gun for forty years, sold as a semi-automatic pistol. Military Armament Corp part number 12750004. An 8.9 inch threaded barrel, an optics ready receiver, a paddle magazine release, an ambidextrous safety and thirty rounds in a magazine standard that is everywhere.
The mechanism is the reason to buy it. A MAC 5 9mm Pistol is not a lookalike with a simpler action inside; Zanders records it as genuinely roller-delayed, which is the expensive way to build a 9mm and the reason this gun costs roughly twice what a straight blowback of the same shape does.
What the MAC 5 9mm Pistol gives you
- 9mm Luger, 30+1, roller-delayed blowback
- 8.9 inch threaded barrel, 1/2×28
- HK-style sling and flash hider fitted

- Paddle magazine release
- Ambidextrous safety
- Fixed sights

Why an MP5 pattern pistol 30+1 still sells
- The smoothest 9mm impulse of any action type, by common agreement
- Magazines are cheap, common and proven over decades
- Five and a half pounds soaks up what little recoil is left
- A shape that fits in a case no rifle will
- Nothing about the design is experimental

Roller delayed blowback 9mm, and why it is the expensive way
Zanders records the action as roller-delayed blowback, and that is the single fact that separates this from everything else shaped like it. A roller-delayed bolt uses two rollers camming into recesses in the trunnion to hold the breech shut for the first fraction of the cycle, so the bolt can be lighter and the impulse smoother than a straight blowback of the same caliber. It is harder to make, which is why guns with it cost more. It is also why people who have shot both can tell the difference blindfolded.
For contrast, our MAC IX from the same manufacturer is direct blowback and costs considerably less. Neither action is wrong. They are different answers, and the MAC 5 9mm Pistol is the one that feels like the original.
Magazines for an MP5 pattern pistol 30+1, and what comes in the case
Two 30-round magazines ship with the MAC 5 9mm Pistol, along with a sling, a cleaning kit and a case. Spares for an MP5 pattern pistol 30+1 are exactly that, which means the cheapest and most available submachine gun magazine standard in existence. We stock MAC 5 and 5K 30-round metal magazines from the manufacturer, KCI 30-round MP5 magazines in depth, and Zenith ZF-5 series magazines.
An 8.9 inch threaded 9mm pistol, the rail and the law
An 8.9 inch threaded 9mm pistol by definition has threads, and this one is 1/2×28 and wears an HK-style sling and flash hider from the factory. The MAC 5 9mm Pistol receiver is optics ready. A suppressor is an NFA item requiring ATF approval and a tax stamp and MAG5 does not stock NFA items.
This is legally a pistol. It has no stock and it is 17.9 inches long overall. Fitting a shoulder stock creates a short barreled rifle under federal law and requires ATF approval before the parts go together. Ask us and ask counsel before you buy anything that attaches at the rear.
Ammunition for the MAC 12750004
Federal 130 grain Syntech PCC was designed for pistol caliber carbines and suits the MAC 5 9mm Pistol because its polymer jacket keeps fouling down, which suits a roller gun. Federal 115 grain FMJ is the cheaper practice option. MAC 12750004 uses a roller-delayed action, which is fussier about underpowered ammunition than a blowback is, so avoid the lightest target loads.
Worth knowing before you buy
- 9mm Luger is a SAAMI standardized cartridge, so factory ammunition is consistent across brands. See the SAAMI published standards.
- Distributor records disagree on the finish: Sports South says black phosphate, Zanders says Cerakote. We are not quoting either.
- There is no stock and none can be fitted without ATF approval. This is a pistol.
- This model cannot be sold under the Illinois PICA and cannot be direct shipped to Rhode Island.
Buy the MAC 5 9mm Pistol if you want the real mechanism rather than the silhouette, and you are prepared to pay for it. The MAC 5 9mm Pistol is a range gun, a collector gun and a home gun in that order, and it is one of the very few ways to own a roller-delayed 9mm without importing something.
