KelTec says the KSG25 was first designed for European customers whose rules favored long barrels. The result is a 30.5 inch barrel in a shotgun only 38 inches long, with two magazine tubes running under the barrel. Capacity is 12+12+1 with 2-3/4 inch shells or 10+10+1 with 3 inch shells, which is where the store title gets its 25-shot figure. It weighs about 9.25 pounds empty and loads and ejects from the bottom, so it works for right and left-handed shooters.
Twin Tubes and the Selector
A selector switch behind the grip chooses which magazine tube feeds. You can load one tube with buckshot and the other with slugs, then switch as needed. Practice the switch, because pumping without changing tubes after one runs dry gives you an empty chamber.
Long Barrel, Short Package
The bullpup layout puts the action behind the grip, so a 30.5 inch barrel fits in a gun shorter than many 18.5 inch pump shotguns. The long barrel helps with velocity and sight radius. The cylinder bore throws wide patterns at close range, and the muzzle is threaded for a choke adapter if you want tighter patterns.
Rails and Accessories
KelTec cut M-LOK slots along the heat shield so you can add a light, a handstop or a bipod. There are no factory sights, so add a red dot or a set of flip-up sights before using it. Popular competition uses include three-gun stages where capacity matters.
Shooting Notes
With nine pounds of weight and most of it toward the shoulder, the KSG25 is steady and recoil is manageable with target loads. The pump stroke is long and needs a firm, full cycle; short-stroking is the most common malfunction. Heavy 3 inch magnums are punishing in any bullpup because the cheek sits right over the action.
Trade-Offs
The KSG25 is heavy when loaded with 25 shells and long for indoor use. Bullpup triggers are heavier than a traditional pump, and loading two tubes takes longer at the range. Accessories are fewer than for a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500.
Care and Maintenance
After each range trip, wipe down the action through the bottom loading port and clean the barrel and threaded muzzle. A light coat of oil on the action bars and bolt keeps the pump smooth. Keep the magazine tube followers free of grit, and replace tube springs if feeding becomes sluggish after years of use.
