The Holosun Ronin AEMS Max Red is the red-reticle version of Holosun’s Ronin-styled enclosed rifle sight, combining a sealed emitter, solar backup and a Multi-Reticle System on a Picatinny mount. It is built for AR-15s, shotguns and PCCs that need to work in rain, mud and snow.

Holosun part RONIN-AEMS-MAX-RD has a hard-anodized 7075-T6 aluminum housing with front and rear glass sealing the LED. Adjustments are 0.5 MOA per click with plus or minus 50 MOA of travel, and the mount sits at 1.41 inches over the rail. Published specs disagree on some figures: Holosun’s page lists a 1.58 by 1.18 inch window and a 65 MOA circle, while several retailers list a 1.1 by 0.87 inch window and a 32 MOA circle. Confirm with Holosun if those details are critical for you.

Red MRS Reticle

The reticle can run as a 2 MOA dot, a large circle, or the circle with the dot inside. The circle-dot is the classic choice for close-range defense and shotguns because the ring frames the target and leads your eye to center. The plain dot is best for zeroing and shooting groups. Red is the most familiar color for most shooters and contrasts well against foliage and indoor backgrounds.

Power and Solar Backup

The battery sits in a side tray, so it can be changed without removing the optic. Holosun rates life at up to 50,000 hours at setting 6, and a Solar Failsafe panel supplements the battery in good light. Shake Awake turns the LED off when the rifle is still and on again when it moves. Brightness offers day and night vision settings plus automatic mode.

Enclosed for Bad Weather

Because the emitter is sealed inside the housing, rain, dust and snow cannot sit on the LED and block the dot. That makes this sight a strong pick for truck guns, hunting rifles and home-defense carbines that may be grabbed in any conditions. Routine care is just wiping the lenses.

Mount Height

At 1.41 inches the mount is an absolute co-witness height on most AR-15s, putting standard irons through the center of the window. Add a riser if you prefer a more heads-up posture. Check clearance with any rear sight or magnifier, since the Ronin body is larger than a micro dot.

Considerations
